I wonder if this has anything to do with the new proposed Sainsbury's superstore (on the site of the current one) which was proposed a few years ago? Without this path, there was no way for pedestrians to get Sainsbury's
That depends where they're coming from. There is a park behind Sainsbury with a bridge over to the supermarket so anybody on the Camberley side can walk there.
May be part of a Section 106 Agreement

Maybe.

You'd have to really like Sainsbury's to walk up the new path from the roundabout which is next to a giant Tesco and M&S, half a mile to a Lidl and Aldi, and a Waitrose which is about as close as Sainsbury's!

I had a look after I posted, and the store upgrade was blocked by the local council.

That must be the same local authority that decided there was a need for a pavement and cycle path - Sainsburys need to offer better incentives to the planning group than those provided by the walker/w*nker (sorry, lycra) groups.

Meanwhile the rest of us have to put up with 2 or 3 years of misery (if we are lucky)!

What a miserable part of the world this is!

Blimey, it was like a dream driving through the area today in traffic that was actually moving smile

Although I guess that's due to the fact they've now removed a chunk of the lane closure from the Meadows until about 1/2 way towards Riverside way.

I live in Hawley and it's driving me nuts. Even Hawley Lane is now jammed and there's not even any respite over the weekend as it's just as packed all around the local area...
This is depressing reading because I'm moving to Hawley area early next year! eek

I saw an article on get surrey that local residents are petitioning against further works as it is degrading their quality of life.

Why - you haven't moved there yet! Maybe you need to look at other options before it is too late.......laugh

55 Minutes from Sandhurst to J4a.
I could have walked it in less.

Indeed but the triple garage and acre of garden is beckoning! wink
And I'll be retired in a couple of years so I'll put up with it.

As an aside, the A331 DC northbound between North Camp and the Frimley turn off seems to have been queuing for about 3 days according to AA Roadwatch!

I haven't had to come back that way recently, but is this all due to roadworks?

Blimey... someone should take them food, water and blankets. They must be in a bad shape by now

Isn't this the time of year when they normally start the on / off closures along the A331 between Frimley & Aldershot due to tidying up the foliage, clearing up the rubbish thrown off trucks at night, etc? That would explain some of the queuing further back.

I found today that they've now closed it down to a single lane on the other side of the A331 from half way before Sainsbury's to the, now closed for right turns, junction with Riverside Way which is slowing things there slightly but also creating the bonus of looking out for the last minute flyby mergers racing to pass at the very last minute, at a reasonable speed more than the current limit.

Ah, I can see the appeal of the garage - you have some fantastic cars to put in it as well. thumbup

Just make sure you have room for a ride-on lawn mower with that much garden!

And anyway in Hawley you should be able to avoid the worst of the current chaos. Sadly I'm only a mile from the Meadows so it is hard to miss!

BTW I recommend the retirement plan - I finished last year and really don't miss going to work in the dark and freezing cold, then coming home in the dark. laugh

Having just returned from a couple of weeks away, I had expected some progress, but they don't seem to have achieved anything at all in the last three weeks other than to open up the lane closure for a bit at the Meadows end (which has improved traffic flow, it has to be said). Have they become confused about what they're doing at the Watchmoor Park junction as work seems to be stalled there.

Did someone say they were going to be finished on Dec 3rd? No chance! I've not even seen a workman there all week.

Surrey CC are saying works will continue until 2nd December. I suppose that could mean they'll just stop work on 2nd December, rather than finishing it by then wink

If you look on their snazzy interactive roadworks page and click on the sign by Sainsbury's, that one says it will go on until 31st Jan 2017 eek

They do apologise for any inconvienience [sic] caused, though.

I'll remember that next time I'm stuck there.

Ugh, that makes it sound as though they're going to provide about 3 to 4 weeks of respite during December (so just in time for the pre Christmas shopping rush) and then start back up again in January (just in time to cause misery for the start of the new working year, new year sales, etc). Excellent planning frown

I wonder whether the lane closures will remain in place once they stop work in December as, at the moment, it certainly doesn't look like the junction at Riverside Way is going to reopened as it's currently missing crash barriers, no kerbs, stripped tarmac, etc.

Although at least this is good pre-preparation to get used to just how much worse it's going to be once they eventually start the reconstruction of The Meadows roundabout frown

Well, possibly if you never have to go anywhere - otherwise it is just miserable!

So the roadworks have gone but the work doesn't appear finished! How long can it take to build a path ... grrr
