A331 roadworks
Discussion
I noticed today that at the lights which come out onto the A30 just up from meadows (from the one way road that runs from Tesco petrol station to the A30 behind Next), there is a sign telling people not to block the road on the yellow hatching and that there is CCTV.
Could do with that at Meadows so that the A30 keeps flowing, although they'd need to paint some nice yellow box areas.

Thanks for the details, I had heard similar but couldn't quite believe that's all it was!
3 months to put a cycle lane and path in place, wow. I wonder what research has been done to show the levels of demand for a path between Blackwater station and Sainsburys that could justify such work and spend.
Seriously, how do they get away with such poor planning and management? There must be more efficient ways of going about projects like this, surely it's a matter of throwing people at it to get it done in weeks not months.
3 months is quick in this part of the world! It took 2 months to put new lights on the Rackstraws junction, and 6 months to build a roundabout on the A3095 for access to the building site at Broadmoor - not to mention how long it is now going to take to stick a few gantries over the M3! Then they are going to start on the M4!3 months to put a cycle lane and path in place, wow. I wonder what research has been done to show the levels of demand for a path between Blackwater station and Sainsburys that could justify such work and spend.

Must be called Berkshire because it is run by Berks! Miserable place for motorists.

But the M4 West junction with the A329 has just gone down to one lane in prep for the M4 works starting and in no way is that already making my fking journey home worse!

The Meadows is in Surrey.
Only just! On the A331 topic, had anyone else had to stop at the new temporary (I hope) lights at the Business Park junction at 22.30 on a Sunday night to allow them to enjoy the expansive view of empty roads and permit contributing to a reduction in the local air quality?
I'm guessing they operate 24 hours a day on just a timer - maybe it's some sort of tourism incentive scheme to keep me in sh*tty Surrey a bit longer before I can escape to b*ggered Berkshire?

I noticed that for the first time when I went through there today. I'm not sure how they thought putting up a sign claiming CCTV is present would stop people continuing to do it as they were definitely still blocking away happily today Could do with that at Meadows so that the A30 keeps flowing, although they'd need to paint some nice yellow box areas.
It's a bit of a lame threat anyway as there doesn't appear to be any evidence of this brand new CCTV setup they've evidently fitted to do the monitoring, unless they've somehow managed to repurpose that of Next, Audi, Travelodge, etc, which I somehow doubt.

I now know that "Hawley Meadow" is open as usual, which I would not have known otherwise. So don't knock it.
Information for the local "d0gging" community perhaps?

Just to add to the fun, they are re-surfacing the Jolly Farmer (American Golf Shop) roundabout as well.
Brilliant timing, the traffic lights there weren't working as i left for work this morning.
Proper resurfacing there has been WELL overdue IMO. The length of time they've left that area with deep potholes & crevices and generally just an all round crap road surface further to previous roadworks and failed "surface treatments" around there over the years has been disgusting Brilliant timing, the traffic lights there weren't working as i left for work this morning.
I've lost count of the number of times they've announced that it would be fixed properly and listed details online only for it to be cancelled time & time again. Fairly certain they even had signs up saying it was meant to be done about 3 months ago but, unsurprisingly it got pulled once again at the last minute.
At least they're finally getting on with it now, and even better, they seem to be doing it pretty quickly too rather than sitting on it in patches for weeks on end
I also noticed that the local youth have obviously been having fun with the diversion signs that are present down the Portsmouth Road. One of them has been re-angled telling people to go into Youlden Drive, another to go up Prior Road and the one to say stay on Portsmouth Road has been twisted so it tells people to do a U-turn and go back down the way they came. I wonder how many people will actually be stupid enough to follow them

I would have done the same thing when i was young.
I am happy they are re-surfacing it, i'm just amazed at the decision to do it now.
"well, we've fked everything up anyway, we might as well dig that other roundabout up whilst we're at it"
I've just figured out why they're having to crack on and get it done this week. The usual full overnight closures of the M3 involving junctions 4, 3 & 2 appear to have been suspended just for this week.
It seems that's the reason why the work was cancelled a couple of months ago, and last year too, as it was deemed closing the Jolly Farmer for resurfacing at the same time as the M3 would have caused serious traffic management issues & confusion for drivers with the preset diversion route off the M3, down the A331 & A30 overnight.
Looks like a small bit of common sense has, surprisingly, been used again

I queued for 30 minutes from Penny hill park end and as I got to the other side, the queue down the a30 and Portsmouth road were massive
They didn't care at all
