Slight update to my OP, the M3 will close from 9pm on Friday night, not 8pm.

There's a bit more information on the Highways England website about the diversions.

I did hear on the radio the other day that the Meadow's roundabout roadworks will all be lifted this weekend, to reduce the rick of an incident causing gridlock with all the extra traffic not being on the M3.

I've had several conversations with them this week, and this was not mentioned, but be nice if true.

Wasn't the radio - I saw it mentioned on GetSurrey:

A sign said that today, but the lane closures haven't changed! laugh

So no doubt 1 lane again and nobody working - hang on though, that isn't any different to normal is it?

So F*cked up as usual is what we should expect! Stay at home if you can!

Well the roadworks around the Meadows were removed for the weekend closure and what a difference, felt like I should just drive around the general area just to make the most of it. In fact this morning they hadn't put them back in place by 7.45am so I enjoyed a hassle free run to the M3 (which then stopped once I got on it)!

Just goes to show what one lane closure does to all routes in the surrounding area.

Yes, I used the A331 last night and it was almost a pleasure (they left the 40 mph signs behind)!

Sadly I doubt anyone from Planning/Highways actually got to see the difference - it might help if they had to suffer what they impose on the rest of us! laugh

I work on watchmoore park in Camberley and take the M3 home, was fine yesterday evening. I did get caught up in the traffic Saturday night as I exit at Lightwater and take the bypass home, little silly of me.

Spoke to the Highways Agency this morning, they confirmed that the M3 works will be suspended over the Christmas, so I can actually use the M3 at 8pm for the first time in months!
Latest completion date is apparently now June 2017.
Only 6 months to go, but still 11 months late!

Do we think the 50mph speed limit will remain in place once the works are complete?

I think managed Motorways all have a 50 limit when they are "in management", I could be wrong though?

The speed limits used are 60, 50, 40 and of course 70 if no limit is being shown.

Managed or smart motorways also allow all lane running (no hard shoulder) at times. It's not all designed to slow everyone down.

But it also means you shouldn't ignore the red crosses of variable speed limits as that's when the enforcement will be at its toughest, and rightly so.

Otherwise, when the variable limits are not in force, it's business as usual.

So if it was work as normal instead of a two week shut down the project would be finished two weeks early so why can't the contractor just get on with it.
And before all you limp wristed ones say its a holiday blah blah blah.
Contractors are working throughout the holiday on the rail network
I will be working at Twyford station on boxing day and will be on call
over the holiday.
As will many other people keeping essential services operating.
This so called smart motorway is already over budget and well over time.
Nothing F-in smart about it either.

I really don't get the logic behind opening the motorway and suspending the works when the roads are going to be potentially at their least busy (save the initial Christmas rush).

I for one welcome it. I often would like to use the M3 between 2 and 4 after 8pm, this will be the first time in months ive been able to

No, I think you will generally find a limit of 30 or 40 in place, but be doing 5 to 10 mph if you are lucky based upon my experience of the M25 from J12 to J10 in the last couple of months - time to move away from this dismal, miserable sh*thole!

God help us if the turd runway at thiefrow goes ahead.
My friends listed thatched house (he is 76 now) will gone along with the rest of Longford Village.

I use the back roads now and avoid the motorways in this whole area.
Happy Holidays smile

FFS. It would seem that the roadworks have over run AGAIN.
Weren't they due to finish in July?????
If so, this is a f'ing farce.
