Just found out my 'local' butcher in Hurst is closing.
Anyone recommend a bloody good butcher in the Bracknell Area? Willing to travel for good meat and sausages/bacon?

Not too far away... don't be surprised by the number of cars - they do an excellent breakfast!

Thanks for all the input

It really is the sausage and bacon side we are interested in!!
The chap at Hurst Peter Jennings died a few weeks ago and Jackie is closing it down.
Could get the bacon out of the freezer and after defrost, fry it without one bit of the ghastly
white foam appearing.
And their Berkshire sausages!!!!!! BiL used to go there for an export order each year!
Likewise he had a game licence, venison always in season, depending on the deer.
And he supplied Copas Turkeys, expensive but good.
do the ones above do game?

Dopsons will, I'm sure, but it's worth going there to be absolutely sure and to have a chat. Nothing I've ever asked for has been a problem.

They also do Copas turkeys.

Great Ribs of beef too. Looks like I'm after a new butcher as well , so update when you've found one. The farmshop butchers over my way Wellington and Aborfield use to much rusk/filler for my liking in the sausages.

Try Newlyns over at J5 of the M3. Great sausages. I love the Smoky Joes, Pork Beer and Watercress etc. Even better - go there EARLY for a cooked breakfast and try before you buy!

I went to Dopsons last week. The 'Crowthorne sausage' is very good. ie not dripping with fat when its fried. Bacon is like Jennings. Taken from freezer and left to defrost, none of that dreaded white gloop that you get from supermarket tat. Nice range of 'speciality' sausages, he was doing black pepper ones last week.
Turkey... well they can do Copas ,which was one of the reasons i went there. However it transpires that Copas are trying to dissuade the smaller butchers. They have found a comparable supplier in Fleethill
and i have order one. not only that they can get venison, and also do fish on Thursdays!!
I felt 'at home' as soon as i walked in, so it looks like my search is over.

Definitety worth a look

A quick update

Dopsons Turkey.

Excellent 6.5kg (75.00) fed 6 on the day, offcuts fed another 10 meals and the carcass was boiled down and along with the excess of veg we normally do to cover, got 11 'takeaway. containers of soup, so all in all we have 38 meals of one sort or another from the bird, and it was juicy as hell the next day.
got a lamb shoulder for New Year and again top quality.
