Think you missed my sarcasm a bit there Dave, somehow I cant see you in a Vauxhall (actually canr see most of you in one).

However the offers there if you need to explore that route. Your budget would pick you up a decent second hand one at the moment... and with warranty.

I await the inevitable tumbleweed roflrofl

I'll see what Herr People's Wagon can do for me on the R32 front (or maybe a Corsa VXR? )

Depends what you want really mate. The Corsa, to me, allbeit a fine car, felt underpowered. Problem is I stepped out the Astra to drive it... maybe hence my thoughts...

The Astra is a marmite car, you either love it or hate it. To get the most of it you have to get used to it. What I mean by that is that you have to learn to live with alot of raw power through your front wheels, and the consequent affects.

It is easy to drive day to day, but when get to 65% you have to be switched on. (Which I know you are). Jokes aside about Vauxhalls you might like it, and as I say, if you want a go your welcome wink

If you want to shread front tyres may I suggest you have a go in one of these:

Alfa

wobble totally bonkers.

edited to add: if you want a passenger ride or go in my car just let me know, however it won't be just like the R32 as it doesn't have as much lard up at the front and it's missing a few cylinders...

Well, i had a test drive in an R32 today - most impressed i have to say. Which is more than can be said for the "new" sales girl hehe

I didn't get too long a drive, but did some nice straights and some twisties -i think this could do well on winter "dashes". I felt that it lacked a little something (maybe 2 cylinders) in teh mid range, but acelleration from start was rapid, it held the corners well and felt nicely planted. I don;t know what the top speed is, but i suspect it would be "adequate". A little tweak on the pipes, and maybe a little breathing on the V6 could be a great car... but i didn't buy it.

The deal they offered on the Rangie was almost an insult. It may be the wrong time to sell such a car, but i suspect these people are having a larfff.

Must try harder on the sales activities...

I think you need to go and get shafted by an Audi garage instead... get an A3 3.2quattro it's less chav and it's the same bits underneith except on a newer chassis the nicer exterior and interior and they're getting pretty cheap.

it, I might go buy this one...

Yes get a DSG! Then a couple of years down the line, after you've lavished a small fortune on it, I'll buy it off you yes

Mmmm.. wonder if Charlie's bored with his 'auto' M3 yet biggrin

scratchchin Hmmm Apart from that it does indeed look goos - BUT, unless i sell it privately, i need a dealer so as i can trade in the Rangie.

For you Ben, i'll have a looksie at the A3 (not that i believe you are biased in any way wink )

I always like a look around the local Audi dealerships, let me know if you're heading over to one thumbup

I am biased however if I was spending my money on a car I'd rather have the A3 over the R32, take the badge off that A3 and everyone will think it's a 2.0TDi hehe Also even though I've had this argument with a lot of people the interior (where I seem to spend a fair amount of time) is much nicer in the new A3 over any Golf.

I drove an A3 3.2 V6 just after the new Golf R32.

The Audi felt rawer, slightly more torquey. The R32 was more springy if hat makes any sense.

It makes sense to do that mate, but the 5 door option of the VW might sway me, however:

Will do matey.

I did like the VW interior and teh seats were very supporting, even for a lardy-arse like me, so probably need to have a look at the Audi - but 3 doors might not be best, especially as it will be my daily driver / work transport.

Not wanting to remove another excuse rofl but they do also make a 5Dr super practical A3, it's just a bit newer than the 3Dr and called the "sportback" which I thought was rather wanky.

I am sure it is a great car, and excellent value, but Range Rover to Skoda, i ask you rolleyes

[small]apologies to all Skoda owners. I'm sure you love your cars, and laugh at people who pay over the odds. I don't mind paying smile )

A bit of 'outside the box' thinking... hehe

Both of these would be great day to day drivers, and leave you a big chunk of change for a new another weekend 'toy'!

2.8 V6 4x4

4.0 W8 4x4

On another note, when I was looking to chop in the LR Disco, the only people who even got near my expectation for a trade in value was a Land Rover dealer; everyone else viewed it as a tractor! Selling it privately would be the route for me when I get rid of it...
