This is turning out to be a great Idea, Kermit!
Mine has road tyres too, but I don't mind getting stuck, as long as one of you lot can yank me out
I wouldn't worry too much about the road tyres, unless you mean 20" chrome wheels with low profile tyres!Mine has road tyres too, but I don't mind getting stuck, as long as one of you lot can yank me out
Mine is fitted with road tyres (as far as I can tell) and I am 100% convinced that my nerve would've failed me long before my tyres based on my initial experience yesterday.

Don't mind getting up to the axles in it though, and a bit of a splash through some decent water would be fun
Sounds like a fun idea. I know loads of lanes in Berkshire / Hampshire / Wiltshire. But not done any in Surrey (re your profile Kermit). Think there are a few around the Devil's Punchbowl, but all that was out of action after the F&M issue.
Disco is in for an MOT and service next week, so depending on how that goes I'll be up for it at some point in the future.
Most of the lanes are nothing to worry about. I've never had to use my winch on a lane, not even had to get the shovel out. So don't worry about getting stuck...

We were fortunate enough to attend a BMW day in Banbury where we were able to sample all the latest models around the track and off road.
Ben had the X3 off road and got bored of driving at <5mph so he mashed the pedal to the floor and flung it around a negative camber corner only for the bmw rep in the car to say "WHOA WHOA! The fire chief called and said that there is still a fire but it is under control so we don't need to get there in such a hurry, so slow down!".
It was pretty amusing as this guy had pretty much just complained about how everyone else was going too fast and killing the brakes.

In all honesty, if anyone is thinking of taking some very precious metal, best go along with someone first to get a feel for it and to trythe lanes out.
Not talking so much about ability of the car, more that there's a good chance things will get scratched. Even if a lane is wide enough, you can't guarantee that a rut won't slide you into a bush.
Thinking of sliding, it could be too wet to go laning in convoy at the moment.
The last week or so will mean the ground is pretty saturated and we'd probably end up damaging the surface with 4 or 5 two tonne vehicles. It just gives the lentilists more ammo.
A fresh spring morning after a dry spell is ideal for green laning.

Thanks! I just wondered if I was being a bit slow on the uptake.....signia said:

I usually go for the wider smoother lanes, they suit the BMW much better...Edited by Ranger 6 on Monday 21st January 16:26

Some very valid points. At 9 years / 144k miles, I'm not fussed about anything a bush can do to mine. Not talking so much about ability of the car, more that there's a good chance things will get scratched. Even if a lane is wide enough, you can't guarantee that a rut won't slide you into a bush.

As for the green lanes wear issue, that was one of the reasons I was suggesting we go to a specific off road centre. Much as I enjoyed my little trundles down Wolvens Lane yesterday, I'm also a mountain biker, so I can just as easily summon up frustration when I come across too much mud!
ETA: Nice website you have there!
