Off road hoon, anyone?

In all honesty, if anyone is thinking of taking some very precious metal, best go along with someone first to get a feel for it and to trythe lanes out.
Not talking so much about ability of the car, more that there's a good chance things will get scratched. Even if a lane is wide enough, you can't guarantee that a rut won't slide you into a bush.
Thinking of sliding, it could be too wet to go laning in convoy at the moment.
The last week or so will mean the ground is pretty saturated and we'd probably end up damaging the surface with 4 or 5 two tonne vehicles. It just gives the lentilists more ammo.
A fresh spring morning after a dry spell is ideal for green laning.
Seconded. Although my Disco has several battle scars so a few more will just add character. Ahem. Not talking so much about ability of the car, more that there's a good chance things will get scratched. Even if a lane is wide enough, you can't guarantee that a rut won't slide you into a bush.

Not done any pay and plays yet. There's one just outside reading - http://www.4x4-withoutaclub.co.uk/
which gets some good comments from people I've talked to.
I reckon they'd be good fun, although I'm sure I'd get there, have a play, and convince myself I need more mods

Love the site, had to laugh at this pic....closely followed by this...
To go off topic for a mo'
The top pic is of the artillery target area, also known as the 'impact area'. Having 'shot' a number of times in that area there must be a huge number of 'blinds' i.e. unexploded rounds. I was very impressed to see you complied with the signage as having lost a few rounds there myself I certainly wouldn't drive anywhere into that particular spot.
Thanks for your comments on the site, Kermit & Ranger. Doesn't get much traffic, but it might help people who stumble across it, and is good for recording my larger laning trips.
Actually - Salisbury Plain is a good place to take any half decent 4x4. No risk of scratches. Good routes which can test articulation and grip at times. I'm told the land rangers are very friendly and helpful(although I myself have only had a wave and nod of acknowledgement as I trundle past).
On a nice day, you get some great views and get to see some interesting sights.
Even when it's wet and muddy, there's no problem. I've read that the land rangers prefer people to stick to the path (in the mud) rather than skirt around it, making it bigger, which is what a lot of people do
If I'm around I'll be up for coming to something. Like I said, the Disco is in for a service and MOT at Nick Kerner's at the end of the month, so I'm keeping it clean for now. Hopefully there won't be anything too major because it comes out of my "toy" fund and that means less petrol money
