have you considered giving the dog time to get used to being alone during the day?

I guess it was really comfortable having company all day long, and now is a little pissed off being alone, but given time its gonna calm down.

either that or buy another similar dog - I have two dogs and they keep each other company while I am at work

tl:dr the thread, but it strikes me as something you should have thought about before getting the dog.

Now you're both working, you don't want it any more (bullst it doesn't like it, it'll get used to it, all the dogs i've ever had have survived being home alone) so you want to give it away, well ideally you'd like to sell it because you've not worn it out yet.

ETA. i could be being cynical like Mr K says though, but it's something i've seen before, but i could be wrong wink

I spoke with Marty on the phone last night and he's a very genuine nice bloke who has the best interests of a dearly loved pet at heart.

I think it would be a good idea for you make an apology for your irrelevant, unnecessary snide remarks.

Failing that, just STFU.

Oli,

In all fairness to Shabs - he's not posted every fact of this, therefore it's unfair to make assumptions based solely on the brief outline that he has posted.

I'm really chuffed to say (and sorry Shabs, if I'm stepping on your toes here), that he's coming to Chez Kinky tomorrow, to meet the Kinky Klan; 1 dog, 1 cat, 2 rabbits, 50+ fish .... oh and a 7-year old son too hehe

We'll see how that goes, and then we'll just take it from there.

As I understand, there is a short-term plan B - someone whom I know, trust and have upmost respect for.

So we'll take it from there.

No, i'm not going to apologise, i'm entitled to my opinion, this is the real world, not marshmallow land.

I will say sorry for not putting a disclaimer on there to say it was my opinion and not the proven truth.

Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, they interviewed me for over 3 hours before letting me take Amber, who is still with me, back to Bristol. Just taken her for walks, and fed her with sweets, best dog I have ever had, I love her to bits.
For the lucky ones, that have the X-Factor. For the others is usually...shoot

Yeah - We've had 3 of these 3-hour RSPCA 'interrogations' in recent years - 2 were known in advance - the 3rd was where they just turned up on the doorstep unannounced eek

I'm sure you get less of a grilling for murder.

You'd think that from a cost and resource efficiency point of view - they'd just do 1, log it, and refer to it for future reference - and maybe do 1 follow-up after a year - and job done.

Suffice to say we passed with flying colours each time.

Our local vet was quite happy to give us an unclaimed rabbit - although she is a mate of Sues .... the vet that is, not the rabbit hehe

Yes guys. I am taking him to visit Kinky and family (could be Kinky and zoo biggrin) tomorrow. Tallbloke has also been just fantastic and if for some reason Chops doesn't get on with Clan Kinky (or visa versa), then I'll be taking him to visit Tallbloke in the next few weeks.

Many thanks... and those pictures of Sugar and Alfie really made me smile smile

If you cannot find a home Hearing Dogs for Deaf People might be able to train him/her for a useful life as a hearing dog for someone.

make sure he has a wee outside, possibly two before you bring him indoors.

he WILL want to mark his territory asap and the less in his bladder the better.

Dont wash his bed / blanket etc for a week or two. Keep an item of the previous owners clothing (T shirt / sock / underwear is actually best as it smells most) in his bed for a few days, and slowly remove it when he associates with you.

Make your decisions on his behaviour now. Where he can sit, going upstairs, getting on bed etc.. Also, keep to your routine as much as possible. If you are going out for a few hours or so do it the same way each time (Sugar goes to her room which has outside access, sits and I give her a dentastix). also leave the radio / tv on the same as if you were in the house. They are companion creatures and like hearing human voices.

Good luck

If these offers of homes dont work out and you really cant get the dog to settle during the day you could always look to 'share' the dog. I'm sue a local care home or kids hospital would love a dog during the day to look after?

A quick update ...... as it would appear we have some folks with baited breath ....

Well, Shabs and Mrs. Shabs (a truly lovely couple) came, along with Chops.

3+ hours later, Shabs and Mrs Shabs have left ....... and Chops has stayed bounce

He's a lovely lovely, friendly, happy, playful dog thumbup

He loves Kinky Junior, Homer (our dog), and has met the 2 rabbits. Topaz the cat has loitered, but has not really shown her face properly as yet. No spits or claws so far.

I'll post some pics shortly - if he stays still for a few seconds to grab one hehe

Thank you Marty and Astrid - I truly cannot express that enough.

K & the family Kinky.
