Loving the pictures on this thread.

Cant lurk for much longer........I need one of these!

Does anyone know how many road cars have been built so far?

For the guys upgrading the steering wheel what type and size did you go for? And was it a straight fit on the boss?

Also, has anyone modified the engine yet or is the power ample?

Cheers
David

I'd also be interesting to know if the build quality had been improved.

The paint finish (including body prep), panel gap and overall interior fit and finish was really poor on the customers car I looked at.

Whilst I appreciate it is a 'race car for the road', should that really excuse poor quality on a car that is attempting to sell itself as an alternative to other road going track biased cars?

Sales guy at Ginetta posted this in November on the "Spotted G60" thread

The G40R is starting to sell and gather some momentum, currently 6 cars have been delivered in the UK with a further 2 on order, currently we have in build cars for Japan, Singapore and France.

The momentum is indeed starting to build with these great little cars. Ginetta now have a dozen cars to build for Japan as well as a number of cars for their other markets, this means that the delivery time for a UK car is now the end of the year. If you are considering one for the New Year then now is the time to get in your order!!
Best regards to all, Tony

Thurs 14th I made an appointment and had a Tour of the Ginetta factory, there factory is very well layed out production is busy busy, lots of race cars and 10 or so cars part manufacture and order books full for this year. The guys there seem very knowledgeable and answered all my questions within seconds, they also stated they are happy to recive feedback or recommendations for modifications etc on the car to make things better. Welding is Superb, Body Work is very good, Carbon Fibre parts need a little bit of final finishing (a few parts of finished cars had open seems), powdered coatings are nice thickness and shiney on all parts of the car, there are a few parts that I can see that may rust in several years that I would upgrade (fixings and brackets etc)

The have changed a few things on the G40r since the pictures on here, dash and rear of the car interior was originally flocked in grey, now its in black on the production cars and looks 100 times better.

Then today I revisited HHC in Hexham for a test drive of the G40r, Tony kindly let me take the car for a quick spin even though this is not the colour or specification I want. I needed to make sure the car was suitable for my back condition my thoughts on the 2012 car.......

STEERING, rack is perfect ratio but a new steering wheel would be my preference as its not the best fit or finish for me, but rides beautifully, doesnt wander and provides excellent feedback on bumpy and smooth roads.

BRAKES
Pedal lacks feel at first and then it stiffens provides confidence

CLUTCH
Well I managed to stall twice at the showroom, as I had work dress shoes on and as its a very heavy off/on clutch, but once the bite and revs where found to be happy the car pulls nicely in first(I stalled twice, before driving it away) I was confident and the heavy clutch was fine on the move, and future pulling and driving in first was very smooth not the normal race car bounce if your trying to drive at 5mph in traffic its happy.

SEATS and Driving Position
The seats are a very nice fit and comfortable (especially for a man with a severe back back) the Bright 6 unit (indicators, lights etc) is poorly located and could do with moving an inch or so one way. The seat would be better moved up 10-15mm for road use as its a little low and thats coming from a man whos 3rd car is normally a Seven Replica but mybess im a short arse.

Doors & Access
No door checks and getting in and out involves flexibility, I would recommend a grab handle on the roof so instead of stretching in and out you can swing in and out by sitting on the door sill. (im only thinking about when i take it to work)

Suspension
car was set medium to hard, id probably stiffen it a little but had lots of travel and no chassis twist on the lumps and bumps.

All in all....Im getting one.

For anyone looking at the G40R, please take a look at mine that I unfortunately have to sell. Great car but arrival of baby #2 means I don't have any time to drive it at the weekend and have not even had a chance to take it on track. As per the advert, car has just been serviced and fully updated to 2013 specs at the factory, which means most of the car is brand new. Beat the waiting time and get one now!
