Does the orice include the Ginetta racing package and support etc??
That itself must be worth a lot...
I'm wondering if there's a deal to be had for just the car?

Hi,

Just noticed this thread pop to the top, update, think I've solved my starting problem, thought the previous owner told me just to press the power button when I wanted to turn the engine off, think that might have been the issue, so tried switching to pressing the ignition button first, then power off, seems to have fixed it, no more starting issues.... so far

so to start press power then ignition and start engine.... to stop ignition then power off....

stil got a problem with the fumes though..

next issue is tryiing to get it serviced, based in north wales, seems the factory is the closest option, but cant get them to agree to service / check it over, well they agree they will, but cant get a when..... will keep trying...

but otherwise, bullet proof when being driven, just feels solid...

Well I have had the G40R now since September, my thoughts...

The car is not finished and is hand built in the main, so it will depend on who does the work and what kind of day he/she is having. Just being honest here, i had to return the car twice in a month, once was because of an incorrect fuse had been fitted, so car fuse blew when i pumped up the juice using air-con, wipers, lights etc. Not a great start. Then I had a clutch issue which meant i could not select gears, problem was isolated to a cracked pipe / clutch fluid thing (I'm no mechanic at all). Anyhow, mechanics then seemingly spent 3 days taking the car apart and checking it over completely, since then it has been fine, excepting that I do currently only have wipers that work on maximum speed only. I have taken out both RAC and AA membership to cover any issues with recovery home and then onwards to Leeds.

Car itself is setup for a good lap rather than drift or 0-60, very sorted when on the track, very competent when hussling over 5krpm.

Fumes are not really an issue for me, still cannot decide if the light fumes are possibly a heating of a cabin that is stuck together rather than any mainstream porker for example. I'm currently looking at some air quality system I can purchase to check the cabin situation.

Also considered a raceline upgrade to the 200bhp duratec, TBH I may just leave it, the car is solid enough and has the performance on track which is enough for chasing down more powerful metal.

36k though... I was lucky enough to secure it while it was 30k (this is car only, no support package at old or new price).

There is nothing like it though really, if I do decide to raceline to 250/260 I have no doubt it will be on par with a 997 GT3 (albeit much more rough and ready, but cheaper to own). I do however think it is a racecar that you are allowed to drive on the road. I know it is said constantly about performance cars "it's a racecar for the road", they really aren't, even a GT3 on the road feels like a road car compared to this, which may be what people are after, but I think that at this level enthusiasts trailer a track car?...

What could replace it? GT3RS, poss GT3, poss Cayman GT4. For the focus the car puts on circuit, I don't see a manufacturer in the price bracket, enthusiasts would love the car, but do enthusiasts pay 36k for such a toy?, i'm still not sure.

Three main buttons in the dash,

Power turns the power on
Ignition turns on the ignition and checks for the immobiliser fob key
Engine start....

Hi All, just read the whole thread, very interesting. I'm just about to buy one, probably next week as there seems to be one available that is ex demo from a dealer. Only 250 miles so essentially brand new. However I live in Essex, so going to the factory for little glitch repairs is probably not that practical for me. How are you getting on with the electrical start issue, does it work now with the new sequence of pressing buttons and putting the key in the tray? Also any news on the fumes, has anything worked for anyone? Apart from these issues it is the perfect car for me, as long as I can get away with being able to do long journeys in it occasionaly, i.e trips to the ring and spa. looking forward to a Ginetta future! p.s anyone got any ginetta numberplate suggestions???

Have you driven one?

I'm in Essex, owned the G40r since Sept last year, had a few glitches but nothing major, start-up procedure all ok.

I do have an official Ginetta dealer in Surrey Mole Valley. But to be honest, I have the car on a double recovery setup, so any issues I have the car loaded up and sent back direct to the factory, in reality, the factory is the only place to have real knowledge of the vehicle.

Still at a total loss on the fumes, I cannot decide if it's a problem or not. Just been back from a North Weald day, had a blast, failed to notice any fumes at all. Beginning to think the height of the car could just be collecting the fumes from surrounding cars (happened a lot in the Atom also).

Car is a blast and sounds great. For a Spa or Ring trip though, I'd probably even consider taking an Atom before the G. It is a race car, more raw than any production Elise I can think of and makes the GT3 feel like a bit of a grand tourer in comparison.

Essex is a big old county, but if you're near BasVegas at any anoint then drop me a PM and we can meet up to go through any minor points. As in, panel gaps. smile

I haven't driven one yet, but am now increasingly worried about the fumes. I have an old car I have failed to get repaired for about 6 months now with an exhaust problem causing the fumes to go in the cabin and know exactly how unpleasant it is. As a result I don't drive it much.... I can deal with raw, in terms of noise and suspension etc... I have done the trip many times in Lotuses and motorbikes, in the pouring rain, so if I mix the two and keep the roof I get a Ginetta... However fumes could be the deal breaker for me. I have looked in to those Vortex Generators, and what a fascinating topic that is, but if nothing has worked for anyone then I'm just not sure. it is the only thing holding me back. I'm at the other end of essex near Colchester, so maybe do a trackday at some point if I get the Ginetta?

out of interest what have you tries so far to stop the fumes? any boot sealing or anything?

Great explanation here of vortex generators if anyone is interested:

Did you take the plunge?

Anyhow, off to the factory in a few weeks to discuss all things Ginetta, the fumes are now negligible (if they are even there!). My setup is that I have a rear wing, the heater is off and the vents are closed where they can be, air-con is also never switched on, windows always up. I know this is not very practical but I am creating a baseline for a few months to get a better understanding before opening up more variables.

Only ever hit Colchester to slowly drive past the Ferrari dealership, although saying that, give it a few weeks and I'll be flying past on the way to Woodbridge (which is an excellent airfield circuit BTW) biggrin

Just in case you don't know, Woodbridge is the spiritual home of Ginetta (well, Campsea Ashe, Woodbridge just up the road) where the Walkletts first started their agricultural business, then car business in 1958 with the Ginetta G2.

Hi,

So I collected my car from the factory after having her serviced and checked over.

They found a hole in the exhaust back box and as a consequence the car was running rich.

Had it replaced, tuning and suspension set up checked, new pads and discs up front and they fitted a small flap / undertray spoiler under the car below the exhaust outlet.... The result, well she brakes better, runs better and sounds better..... And the fumes....

100 mile drive back home, no headache or sore eyes and I didn't stink of exhaust fumes when I got back in the house, yes you can still smell the engine but it's any oily engine type odour not sharp exhaust smell.

So I'm happy, at long last it's not only bullet proof to drive, but is now a nice place to be, well for a race car anyhow...

And the guys in the factory, partiicullay Simon were brilliant, managed to get a look at the LMP cars as I was heading to the office to pay, very impressive and performed well first time out yesterday.

So, I'm a happy camper....

JP

Oh and I spoke to Simon about the starting problem, yes the problem was due to the way I was stopping the car, the new stopping procedure pressing ignition first then power off, works every time. No restarting issues.

Happy camper!!!!!
