A couple of quick questions, as I am downgrading my fun car ... changing from BMW 850 to a G32. Clearly no comparison in any meaningful area, but the G32 gives me some change to spend on a few improvements:

- Its a 1.6. I have read about the possible upgrades and would NOT go for a turbo. Is the 1.9 the one to go for, and is it relatively straightforward ? I won't be doing jobs that major myself. It doesn't need a new engine - this would just be for performance reasons.

- Paint jobs. Any GRP specialists in Essex / Suffolk area ? The company that did my old Scimitar is no longer around. No body damage, but new paint required. On that point, a google image search produces simple single colour cars. Was there ever anything a little racier ? If possible, sticking to the original 'style' sounds sensible. No fixed ideas, but something a little more eyecatching would be good.

Thanks !

As for engines the 1.9 was, I believe, an american tall block based engine imported by Specialised Engines. The 1.6 can be tuned up to full race spec quite easily. See Burton Power website www.burtonpower.com under technical support. Some of the large boot behind the engine can be cut away to accomodate twin carbs and big filters.

I've never seen a G32 with anything other than a single colour paint job but did consider a number of options when looking to get mine resprayed. I played about with PaintShop Pro but eventually decided that one colour looked best. One scheme that did look OK was one colour all over except for a single wide stripe right over the top of the car the width of the moulded lines on the bonnet.

There were a couple of minor body mods available. Turbo Ears (the triangular panels behind the door) can replace the fluted side panels to let more air into the engine bay but I have it on good authority that they were useless without the small front air dam providing the correct airflow under the car.

The 1.9 is a lovely engine to have behind you. Lots and lots of grunt.

Be aware when cutting the boot that it is a crumple zone. The car's evidently very safe as made but if you go chopping bits off . . .

See what I've added to the other G32 thread for my opinion as a whole.
