RE: Ginetta G4
Discussion
The rumor mill says that the EVO G4 article was nto printed in its entirety.
I beleive it only because they gave the G4 3.5 stars and didn't say anything negative about the G4--other than the lack of a dead peddle and steering that wasn't quite as good as a Elise.
Anyone have a thought about this?

You know, I'm not sure my previous post made it.
Here goes:
The car with the removable hardtop on looks like the coupe--which says a lot for the quality of the work done. I hope someone in Pistonheads can drive the car to compare it to the coupe and convertible versions--I think this version will replace the coupe/convertible!

I am in the middle of putting a load of pix on the www.goginetta.com website including interior pix etc... so check it out..

I drove the car down the road to a spot where I usually shoot photos of cars and also took off the hard-top to see it in cab. form.
The hard-top is secured using two thumb screws at the rear of the lid, a locating pin at the front which secures it centrally, with three thumb screws which use a curved plate that tightens around the bottom edge of the top of the windscreen. (if you follow me?)
Taking the lid off was a simple case of releasing all the thumb screws and lifting the rear up and then pulling the whole lid away from the front. Putting it on was just the reverse, very simple and effective.
It is easy enough to manage on your own and light enough. Clever use of door seals and interior trim makes the lid weather-proof and almost exactly like the coupe sister model when your sat inside ready to put your foot through the floor and let your body be shoved back into the seat. Loads of power and a very comportable seating position. I'm 6'2" tall and the space provided was adequate except possibly the foot pedals which I have always found in other G4's I've driven are slightly too close together, but in saying this if one was wearing the correct footwear for racing, this shouldn't be a problem.
Congratulations to Dare in producing a very simple but totally practical and effective way of having the best of both worlds.. a coupe sealed unit and the open atmosphere of a convertible in one very unique and special car. The G4 Roadster.

I apologize...
Monkeyed around the www.goginetta.com website and found the yellow G4! Awesome looking car! Great combo of colors. What are the specs for the engine?

Used to write for Speed & Style and also did one piece for Sportscar in its (sadly) last issue. Only writing for Pistonheads at moment because can't find any magazine editors with enough sense to give me any work! Bloody boring mainstream hacks.. mumble mumble muter mutter....
Possibly never see any reports on the G12 because it was designed as a race car so don't know if they did a road legal version. Have to check it out with Dare.

I never saw Speed and Style in the USA, but did see Sportscar. I thought it was a great mag that was interested in auto esoterica (along with the usual suspects). Why did Sportscar fold after so few issues?
It was always sold out on the stands in the USA...
GB, you gotta drive the new Dare G4 for those of us who can't get their hands on one...

The reason Sportscar folded after so few issues was that Kelsey publishing failed to provide the financial support it needed to give it time to get established, even though they had promised editor Martin Foster they would.
Regarding the 'new' G4, the only thing about it that's new is the removable hardtop. Apart from that it's the same as the G4 I tested for Pistonheads last December, so it's not really worth another test feature.

Sorry kip, but much as I would love to test drive the G12 it just ain't practical. It would mean driving on a test/race track. Pistonheads couldn't afford/justify the fees, and nor, I expect, could Dare. Of course if readers want to start a Pistonheads track test fund I'm sure Ted will be happy to accept any donations...
