This is the G33 which was featured on the 1991 Top Gear episode.
It's on the ramp at Centre Gravity Having a track geo done.

Interestinly your G33 featured on you tube which I think was the Top gear video with Tiff Needell driving it has the registration number of my G32 on it ?

I love watching those old Top Gear videos. Tiff looks like a schoolboy with that mop, and as for Clarkson with his Phil Lynott Thin Lizzy frizz, hilarious!

Ahh, just been told it's simply because I'm now old. frown

What's your reasoning for the Tiff G33 reg on your G32 then Ian?
I'm not saying anything. wink

John the only reason I can think is the G33 was not registered and they stuck the plates off my car on it for the top gear road test?

It was originally registered as J145CGT when purchased new from Barouche Motorsport. It was wearing the J145CGT number when lent to Performance Car magazine for the PCOTY article in 1991. When TG borrowed it they put a seemingly random number on for filming. No idea why! The interior (hideous pink/purple and black which appeared in the TG clip) was replaced and the car re-registered as J33JTB.

I see you didn't finish the second race, Paul. Was that the incident with the Lotus 51? Not too much damage I hope?

Paul,
Car looks fantastic by the way (or it did!).

You know the event was televised?
What with Tiff Needell in a Loti coming 8th, the FF race 'might' feature -
it's on TONIGHT (Wed 15th), 9pm ITV 4, for 1 hour.

Apparently will be repeated (ITV 4 again) 9 in the morning 18th August; 10 pm 21st August and again 9th September.

I see Merlyns took first and second.

edited to add I should have read Geoff's post!

Hello Bob, hope you're well.
All these years on and a G18 'possibly' going to appear on TV again.
Let's hope, if it does, the cameras pick it out this time, unlike the tale in your book of the G18 in The Brothers TV programme!

Geoff
It didn't help - he lifted round Luffield and I smacked his gearbox with the nose hard enough to break the screen and for the mirrors to fall down - but I retired due to wheel bearing failure. I could feel it going but keep going until the heel was moving enough to knock the pads back. Got a bit much pumping the brakes up with my left foot and alternating hands on the wheel to lift the mirrors up.

The damage is very minor - just a bit of glass and paint. The front was getting shabby so I was going to paint it anyway. I've finally got to the bottom of what's been killing the bearings too - it's been the left rear every time so a new spacer has been fitted to ensure the right tension on the bearings. Sadly the car might be up for sale at the end of the season though...

Hi Dandarez

Sorry, I think our posts overlapped.

Thanks re the car - it will be back good as new in no time. I'm toying with the idea of returning it to period colours, too... Luckily it was during the second race so got plenty of track time. I was five seconds a lap quicker than my last visit there so finally seem to be getting on top of the set up.

I did know about the TV, there were cameras everywhere. Hopefully there'll be some footage. The on board from race 1 is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3RArY80LsM&fea...

Hi Paul, I was just going to say the only good thing was the saloon car race.

I must have missed you! Was it a blink and miss bit? wink

I still have it recorded.

By the way I bet few can say they began their first season of racing in a grid of 54!

It was fairly brief! But still nice to see.

Sadly not my first season, although the first full season in single-seaters. A hell of a memorable occasion though...

I've just re-run it (straight to 36 mins) and just amazed at how I missed it. I think I thought initially the arm wave was from the winner!

Excellent anyway. That's one for posterity.

I'd been contemplating a book on F Ford years back and had someone lined up to do it - think I might refresh that idea. There's been nothing since Steve Nickless's book in the early 90s and Binghams DriveIt F Ford book about 10 years before. And they can fetch daft money.

I think the TV company did that deliberately; bit of a savage edit from Calum to me! Both in yellow cars, too... But as you say, a nice addition to the history folder.

Re the book, interesting idea. I have the two books you mention and there's certainly room for another. Would be an interesting project too.
