Hello,

Anyone on here have one of the above and what do you make over the overall fuel economy?

I have recently taken delivery of a 125ps Zetec S, it's a very nice car but I'm interested in people view on the fuel consumption, I've done 700 miles in it now and the average was sitting at 37.8 mpg before I started a proper Eco test on my 40 mile commute home this morning.

I intend to drive in a steady manor for the next 2 weeks not going above 70 unless it's for safety reasons, most of my driving is on duel carraigeway or motorway but I do have to traverse the Dartford Crossing every working day at various times and it's usually queuing at least one way of the trip frown my 'test' should cover around 850 miles so by then I should have a good idea of what it's real average is.

Anyone else got any figures?

that's roughly the same power figure as the 1.8 N/A petrol in my mk 2.5, so i think that would be an interesting comparison.

In that I get 36 day to day, lower in any kind of traffic and about 42-43 on longer journeys. This is calculated using an app, no the onboard computer.
The dartford crossing queue would probably bring my average down to 30-31 I think, so the EcoBoost does sound considerably better.

Interested in this too. Ecoboost 1.0 seems good on paper and sounds nice too, real world performance comments would be good to hear.

If you have an hour or two to listen to a salesman I really do recomend a test drive, it's a revaltion. Think similar performance to a 1.6tdci without the low revs lag, the 1.0 is very lively at low revs (no getting caught out a roundabouts) I had the same shape Focus 1.6 125 vvti previously and it was truley awful, I hated driving it, not so with the new one smile

I'm coming around to the idea of one of these so very interested in your results.

Interesting that none of the reviews ive seen talk about real world economy. From a quick bit of googling, then 38mpg sounds typical but i sincerely hope this is wrong. With a offical combined figure of 57mpg you'd expect figures will into the 40s?

This may be of interest, later into the thread someone mentions a ford update which improved things from the 34mpg they were seeing: http://www.talkford.com/topic/196983-do-i-buy-10-o...

Thanks for the above info, I've now downloaded an app for my iPhone so once I've done a few fill ups I'll let you know what I find.

According to this recent event, 62mpg is achievable from the 1.0l focus in real world driving!

http://www.talkford.com/topic/205198-frugal-ford-f...

I saw this on our local news last week as their journalist was driving the focus. The aim is to drive a 300+mile road, the diesel Fiesta came out on top and the petrol focus performed well. This is the event website http://www.thempgmarathon.co.uk/.

So with carful driving 10% over the official figure can be attained but looking at the Honest John website they reckon real world is on average 77% below official figures.

BTW i'm really not that obsessed at all about mpg its just interesting that the small bore turbo idea was supposed to give the performance of a large engine and the economy of a small one, not the reverse.

As it stands with 1400 miles on the clock I'm averaging 39 mpg, about 6 lower than I hoped for, when you drive 400 miles a week in the congested south east it makes a difference, if I cannot improve it then it will be back to diesel next time.

Really? That's terrible. There must be something wrong with your driving? wink

Just for comparison, I drive a diesel MK4 Mondeo estate as a taxi all day every day, about 80% round town, 20% motorway-type roads, and I get anywhere between 39 to 44mpg. Which I wasn't happy about.

I drove our demo 125PS for a couple of days and got circa 44mpg. Steady driving on motorway and A roads mainly.

Most of my customers are very happy with them, most getting 40> mpg.

I'm very happy with the car, the way it drives, looks and go's are all fine it's just that I hoped for at least mid 40's mpg wise, I don't thrash the thing, cruise at 70 and I'm a professional driver so know all about defensive driving, now has 1600 miles on the clock

I'm sure it's obvious but you need to take the difference in fuel cost into account when considering a diesel. Off the top of my head, 39 mpg in a petrol is very roughly the equivalent of 44 mpg in a diesel, given current price differences.

I got a Focus Titanium last week with 7,500 miles on it and so far, hacking back and forward to work it gives about 38ish (computer claimed).

I was hoping for north of 40mpg, as my last car was an Aygo, which even when caned would average about 50mpg. (although it weighed about as much as a packet of crisps had the acoustics of riding around in an oil drum)

I'm off for the Xmas break, so I'll see how it goes when I get a chance to have fun in it....evil

I am impressed with it though, smooth as anything and sound good too. Even if the fuel economy is crap at least it sounds good and doesn't smell like a truck when you fill up.

Andy

edit: its the 125hp version if that makes any difference

This'll be an interesting comparison as I pick up a 1.6 tdci Titanium estate on the 2nd.

I currently have the 1.6tdi A3 which averages just under 50mpg over it's 63,000 miles covered. 70% duel and motorway, the rest A B and town driving.

I'm hoping for similar figures from the Ford which I'll have for 4 years and 88,000 miles.

I have had a Focus Titanium 125 ecoboost since September 2012. Been in once already for fuel consumption issues i.e. driving steady and 37mpg. Ended up with a "re map" from Germany. This around 3,400 miles. Called again last month to register same complaint. Have logged journeys, dates , mileage etc for them over 2 tank fulls. Result 1st trip av speed 35mph av fuel 40.1mpg over 394 miles,2nd trip av speed 29mph av fuel 37.6mpg over 390 miles. Car now done around 7,300 miles. Booked back in on 6th March as need courtesy car. Will keep you posted on outcome. This doesn't seem to be unusual which is worrying. If I put my foot down in 2nd gear does 7mpg according to computer, ouch!!. Amount of fuel i put in and miles done seems to match computer figures. All in all not a happy bunny. Shame because car is quite nice.
