Righty-ho.

Update time.

Bank balance issues came into effect, and the Michelins were duly ruled out. I couldn't wait any longer, as the old ones were on the ragged edge of 'barely legal'.

Saturday morning, early doors, I went in to Farnborough Value Tyres to have two Continental Sportcontact 5, 235/45 R18 Y (XL) tyres fitted to my front wheels. £336.82 for the pair was as cheap as I could get them, and I had to order them online to have them fitted at that price.

Bizarrely I'd phoned the fitters direct, and they said the best they could do was £190 each. So I went and ordered them via the 'Point S' link on their own bloody website for £168.41 each rolleyes The only drawback was having to wait a couple of days for the first available appointment (Saturday am)

Cheaper than Blackcircles and KwikFit's online ordering service. I was shocked to find out, when I phoned KwikFit, to find that the price was nearly £100 MORE per corner for a walk-in customer than it was ordering online yikes

I got the tracking/alignment checked at the same time. Early indications are good following the new boots and the adjustments. The front end feels 'lighter' (but with no loss of grip) and it should cut down the amount of inside edge 'scrubbing' too, if they've done it right. Just need to check the wheelnut torque in a week or so, then find an excuse to get out on a decent drive with them now wink

Apologies if it seems like I've ignored all the advice to get the Michelins. I'll bear them in mind next time I need rubber, but this time around I just couldn't justify the extra (and I'd been pretty satisfied with the original Contis to be honest). It was all I could do to persuade 'er indoors that we didn't want budget brand tyres on there.
