Whoa nice one. Think I'm going to have to take a look at that then. Sounds like the best thing to do. Thanks for the advice.

And you can't get a 3 door either.

It's the way things are now no point dwelling on it & I'm actually enjoying the practical side of have a car with back doors again!

For 3 doors there's the fiesta!

I think the MK3 has a bit of the old Escort MK2 BDA bark compared to the Mk2's Quattroesque growl.

Anyone close to Ford heard when the ST is getting the facelift already announced for the rest of the range?

Just an update guys. I am going to buy a new mk3 now instead of a 2nd hand as it would work out cheaper for me fords finance. Plus with the deals going about i can get a st3 with style pack and door protectors cheaper than what they are advertising an st2, so a no brainer.

My only dilemma now is the facelift! Probably best to hold off for one now but would i still get the same deal??

How close was the deal to the advertised (business) price? The ST1 is listed at £16.5k but its for business sales only. Curious how close DTD would get to this for a private buyer.

I paid £700 over what the business price was so that would equal £17200 which IMHO is a bargin!!

I was warned off the door protectors as apparently there have been some issues with them sticking which is not good when you slam the door!!!

That's 8 months we've had ours and it has been fantastic.

I highly recommend driving in 'sport' mode. I've no idea where Ford get their MPG but we're certainly not getting it! 25mpg seems to be the norm.

With iso-fix setup on one of the back seats, there is still loads of room in the back. The boot also manages to swallow the travel system easily, with some room left for shopping.

Really?! That's an issue, I wasn't expecting diesel like mpg but I'd've hoped for 30-35ish. What kind of driving do you do? What are others' experiences?

According to the on board computer mine is doing 29mpg currently with a mix of driving & to be fair it's only done 800 miles so far

To quote the Ford advert in the latest Evo magazine.....28.5 urban, 50.4 extra urban and 39.2 combined ...... errrr..... NO!

As for driving, well the school run and usual rush hour type driving. But then when the road is quiet.....

Don't get me wrong, I know you don't buy a hot hatch or 'sport' model if you're looking for 40mpg. But I do think Ford are way off the mark with their quoted figures.

I'm getting 30mpg out of mine most of the time according to the trip computer, 6,000 miles in. Mix of town, A roads and country roads on the daily commute. It can reach 35-36 on a motorway run at 70. I didn't buy it for fuel economy but must admit I've been surprised just how far from Ford's figures it has been in reality!

I have a non-ST focus and the onboard computer is pessimistic compared to an app I use. I think it says 35.something compared to 38.5 in the app. So I wouldn't rely on the OBC to give an accurate readout.

I've bought myself a st-2 and I'm getting 33 to 35 mpg on a 100 mile journey to and from work on country roads.
I had a focus 105 bhp zetec mk 3 as a temporary car and that was getting 35mpg.
