Hi, I have just bought a Mk3 Mondeo Zetec-S with the 2.5 litre V6 petrol engine.
It's a 2001 model year car and i was wondering how easy a DIY service can be carried out?

Anyone have any tips or links to changing the oil/filter - Can it be easily done on the driveway?
And the spark plugs - am i right in thinking its only the 3.0litre where you have to start taking inlet manifolds off? Or is the 2.5 a pain also?

Also... The clutch biting point is quite high up the pedals travel but there appears to be no clutch slip - Do they usually have the biting point so high?

Thanks in advance,

Richard.

Luckily the more i drive the car, the more the clutch doesn't feel to bad. Infact i drove my wife's 1 week old Toyota Avensis that has only covered 500miles and its clutch feels like it bites at a higher point.

I have heard that it can be a £900 job, all in, to change the clutch and flywheel.

Yip it can be. On the older ones the clutch can write the car off. Crazy. I have a V6 51 plate Ghia X. The plugs can be a bit of a pain to get to and the oil filter is not easy either. I personally get a garage to do my service for £100 and saves the skin on my knuckles. The rest is a doddle to do.

oil/filter change is like anything else. I'm running Millers oil (nanodrive: http://www.millersoils.co.uk/automotive/tds-automo... with a K&N oil filter. strongly recommend it!! along with ngk upgrade sparks

The zetec s will have a duel mass flywheel as does the st220 version. these don't tend to go like the tdci versions do. its proberly just the clutch could need a bleed to get the air out or it could be the clutch running high.

Only six speed zetec s after/around 53 plate) have dual mass flywheels, the 5 speeds are solid.
