Are these problems normal on a new Fiesta ST2?
Discussion
Hi everyone,
I've had my new panther black non style pack Fiesta ST2 for around 2 months now and have clocked up 2k miles. It's great but there's a few things I've noticed that I don't know are issues or just common characteristics of the car.
- When moving slowly in traffic and applying light to medium braking there is a very noticeable loud grinding/scoring noise from the brakes.
- When the gearbox is cold there's a bit of resistance getting the car into 1st gear and it just isn't anywhere near as slick as the other gears or 1st when the box is warmed up.
Also I've never pulled a handbrake in my life, but thought I'd pull one while on my friends drive (don't judge me )and the back wheels didn't lock up at all. Is it a safety feature or something? I'll probably never try it again but I'm wondering if the handbrake cable is stretched or something.
I'm just wondering if any of these issues are something I should be taking the car back to the dealer about or not.

The grinding definitely seems to be fairly common. Mine has just been dug out of the garage after a week's hibernation and it's grinding even with the brakes off. First couple of miles of stop/start driving should remove the corrosion & return them to normal.
On the sticky shifts, yes, I've noticed it's not as slick changing gear when the gearbox oil is cold. Again, a few miles normal driving sorts it out. Moral of the story? Warm it up properly before driving enthusiastically!!
