Evening folks.

During hard acceleration my Mondeo judders, then goes into 'limp home' mode and the glow plug light starts flashing. It feels like an over boost problem as it only occurs under hard acceleration and usually at higher revs. Occasionally the car will cut out completely after going into limp home mode - This happened yesterday on the motorway! Stopping the car and turning the engine off and back on again resets the car and it drives fine after that. I can get away with medium acceleration for a couple of miles before the same thing happens again.

The car starts and drives fine from cold and the idle is perfect hot or cold.

I've bypassed the EGR valve by fitting a blanking plate and I've checked the actuator is moving freely.

I know that the TDCI engine is notorious for various problems sending the car into limp home mode but not sure what to try next.

Would a blocked fuel filter or cam position sensor be causing this problem? these are relatively cheap things to try and replace.

The car isn't worth spending thousands on and I don't want to start replacing injectors, fuel pumps or turbo's

Any advice greatly received.

Thanks.

You need to read the fault codes, you'll most probably get P0251 an P1211 (fuel pressure).

First start by replacing fuel filter and cut open the old one to see what's inside (sludge/swarf).

Hi

Had same problems it turned out to be actuator on turbo. You can't buy actuator seperatly from turbo but found a guy on ebay who rebuilds actuator for £89.99. he will test turbo to check if faulty for £15. Had mine rebuilt and now no more glow plugs flashing. He lives in Rainham Essex.

Sorry never read before posting. I ment he will test actuator not turbo.

Hello,

I posted a similar topic to you before Xmas.

In my case both blocking the EGR valve and buying a genuine Bosch Filter has seemingly cured the problem.

My reading tends to suggest that non-genuine fuel filter are a likely cause.

I had the fuel filter replaced and it's now running much better. I'm looking to change cars in the next 6 months so hopefully it will keep running OK until then.

Thanks for all the replies.

If it is occasionally when you're accelerating, then it could be the cam sensor on its way out. It is a common fault apparently.
