Hey all,
I'm looking into buying a 1.6 petrol zetec s, is there any way to increase hp without spending stupid money(e.g. Turbo) or would I be better getting the tdci version and remapping etc. thoughts?

I would investigate the cost of a mountune upgrade (if avaliable). Change of parts/software and is OEM approved so warranty still valid.

Yeah i looked it up, and it's £300 and it will go to about 114bhp and 240 torque, however that is for the 1.6TDCi model. Would I be better of buying the petrol version and getting a remap? As they don't do the kits for a 1.6 petrol. Thoughts?

Small mods like induction kits and exhausts are about your best, but they don't really offer an awful lot.

Bluefin chip if the ECU is compatible. Put it up to about 132 ish from what I remember.(That's if it is a Mk7)

This a MK6 I'm talking about I want it pushing about 130hp just to make it that bit more pleasing, but at the end of the day I'm only 17 so can't really afford at 2L, would a remap on the petrol 1.6 not do much?

60 plate will be a mk7, so my post is applicable to your son's car.

Bluefin will take the 1.6 from 98bhp to 107bhp http://www.mybluefin.co.uk/search?make=9&fuelt...
Diesel goes from 90bhp to 118bhp, but then you'd have to drive a diesel.

However, being 17 years old i'd check out the insurance costs of getting it chipped before you go ahead. I'd be surprised if they'd allow it at all.

Not quite. The mk6 and mk7 1.6 engines are different

mk7 1.6 is a vvt unit.

FYI a friend had a K&N typhoon and full millet system and remap on his mk6 zs. It made 115bhp.

All that lot for the best part of over £1500 in mods i don't frankly see it as worth it.

Wouldn't bother with a Bluefin on the Mk6 1.6. We have one on our Mk7 but that has the VCT and has good gains (but not mind blowing) I had Bluefin on my Mk5 1.6 Zetec S and again the difference was very minimal.
