Ford Paint Codes - can someone explain them?

I need to get some spray paint in Ford Neptune Green which is shown as paint code U2 on the VIN plate but the ebay shop lists several different versions with an "ext code" of D, G, Y.L, U or *. How can I find out which I need? I've emailed the shop but as its easter weekend I don't expect a quick answer.

Yes, but I have to do a full rear bumper so I'd rather pay the same price for 400ml cans.

Depends what age of car this is, but on the 90s models, they all have another "trim" panel that will say the interior trim spec, and the paint code with shade.
