Considering purchasing a couple of petrol models through ford approved, wanted a sportier car that was still practical as a family hatch,
All are up to two years old and 15k miles, ranging from £16k-£18k,
For at least first 6 months I will be doing approx. 2k month a miles on motorway, after this mileage would half,
Would appreciate any comments re any potential better choices/issues I have not considered

I have an st3 on order with drive the deal. To get the best discount you actually have to use ford finance.For me an St3 with metallic and options is coming in at £21800 and a none metallic st2 is coming up as £19,066 on their site. Only issue might be theres a bit of a lead time on orders.
Currently got a 2.5yr-old ST-3 (that is for sale in the PH classifieds) and got another ST-3 on order, expected delivery for the new one is August.
mpg is high 20's, car is reasonably comfortable and can fair crack-on when pushed, running costs are reasonable in terms of servicing, tyres etc and mine has been FAIRLY reliable (apart from a couple of hiccups when it was 1-2 months old).

I though most brokers just set you up with a main dealer and then you can use their regular finance options?

It might be a cheap price but i really wouldnt recommend anybody buy an ST1.It is quite poorly equipped as standard, and you cant even add certain must have options - privacy glass for example.
I would definitely avoid an ST1.

To me privacy glass is a must have on any car where it is offered, not just a Focus ST.It really should be standard on more upmarket models, and definitely should be on the ST.
In fact when the pricelist for the facelift ST was first released it listed privacy glass as standard on the ST3, and that turned out to be a fiasco for all who ordered early cars.
I dont care about keeping the sun off people in the back of my car because there is never anybody in it, but privacy glass compliments the looks of the car and makes it much more attractive, particularly in certain colours.
I originally thought you were being funny with your question so i done the same back, but to ask the question in the first place it is clear that you do not share the same views as me regarding privacy glass and would not bother specifying it as an option. If you would choose it then you wouldnt have asked the question in the first place.
I would be willing to bet(with a high degree of probability)that privacy glass is the single most popular option on the Focus ST.

Fair enough - I don't like the dark at the rear, light at the front UK privacy glass effect - both my Mk5 Golf Gtis were black and the 3 door would have looked like a van!It really should be standard on more upmarket models, and definitely should be on the ST.

I have had a test drive of the ST 2 and really liked the car,
Still leaning to a low mileage (less than 10k miles) 2nd hand option through ford approved,
Concerns I have are:
-The possible two services it will need during 1st year mileage(16k-25k total, year 2/3 will be under 10k).
-Heard a few horror stories re paint/rust.
-Potential boy racers who have thrashed it, although Ford should not approve such vehicles?
What are the ford warranties like generally?

Services two and three are a little more than the first, but still expect change from £200 each-The possible two services it will need during 1st year mileage(16k-25k total, year 2/3 will be under 10k).

Paint and rust issues will not be a problem on a Ford Direct car at time of sale
The two year Ford Direct warranty is actually more comprehensive than the Ford manufacturers warranty out of the first 12 months from new
All fords are run in by the time you get them, whether new or used, judging by the way Reg Vardy Reading ,chimps used to deliver them from the pound to the workshops, where I used to work, en route. I don't think they came off the limiters or were delivered with a full compliment of front rubber.
My 2014 ST2 is for sale on here and fits your above requirements. It has been a great family car. More than willing to answer any honest questions about my experience with living with one (your profile wont let me pm you!). Aside from the mpg the car has been fantastic to own and I'll be sad to see it go!

The car is a fantastic all rounder although I upgraded to the mountune exhaust as I personally hated the stock tailpipe
Has been faultless bar a front fog light that wasn't water tight which was replaced with no hassle by my local dealer
