Does anyone happen to know if this is available post purchase ? i.e a month into ownership.
From the Ford gumpf:Ford Protect Extended Warranty Plans can be purchased any time up until the vehicle’s first date of registration
Check here: http://www.ford.co.uk/BuyingandprotectingyourFord/...
I thought I read somewhere that you can get the extended warranty post purchase but that it's slightly different. Best ask your dealer.
The service plan can be purchased at any time up until the first service I believe.

Just spoken to my ford dealer and he has said that you can buy the extended warranty at any time as long as the car is currently in waranty. So basically 2 years and 364 days...as long as you buy it then! It depends on whether you intend to sell it or not, and on that...whether you think it will add value by having it covered for 5 years. Im going to go for it on the Rs, but not on the Edge we have just bought too.....only have to wait another couple of months for that one though Nope, its an unwanted feature. I have no desire to have it and couldn't care less about resale or owners after me. Hell I night keep the car forever.
I just don't want a system on the car that has the ability to brake suddenly without me asking it to. How reliable arevthese systems 10 years down the line?
Insurance is there if theres ever a mishap.
All the other options were worth javing but this is pointless and a liability imo.

This is precisely what it is intended to do, when for whatever reason you have not done so yourself. All the other options were worth having but this is pointless and a liability imo.
Autonomous braking systems are becoming much more commonplace on cars these days with talk of insurance companies offering discounts when fitted, so to say it is pointless and a liability is quite difficult to comprehend. I actually wish now that I had specified it on my own car.
So you think Door Edge Protectors are worth having? Well they have a relatively high failure rate which in some cases can ironically end up damaging your own car.
While I do admire your car, I think your decision making process leaves something to be desired.
But hey it's your money and your car so its entirely up to you.

I couldnt give a flying fk if you buy it or not - im simply pointing out that as a current user of the Ford system, it doesnt 'randomly' brake whenever it feels like it, which seemed to be the basis of your decision making..... just saying
Likewise, I have had the same system in the Volvo for the last 5 years and it is bloody brilliant! I would count myself as a good driver, but having had someone stop dead in front of me at a roundabout the car stopped far quicker than I did....and I wouldn't let pride getting in the way of saying it would have been 50:50 whether I would have stopped in time.I have added it to both the Edge and the Rs

Have you had problems stopping in the past? Perhaps you simply shouldn't be on the road.TX.

At what distance from a car in front will it activate the brakes?
There is plenty of information available online. The system only operates at speeds of up to 20mph with maximum force braking so the distance will be very close. i.e. so close that a collision is guaranteed unless you have already braked yourself.
It is obviously too late for you to benefit from it for your RS, but having all the facts you might decide it's worth spending a paltry £200 or so to specify on your next car.

Don't rely on it too much though I have added it to both the Edge and the Rs

Oh yes, that looks well worth £200. Personally I'd rather the 3 tanks of fuel thank you.rb5er said:
Its not too late to add options but I still don't want it.
I have a brake pedal and insurance to cover such eventualities.
I'm sorry I thought you already had your car, I didn't realise its not yet been built.I have a brake pedal and insurance to cover such eventualities.
Your second sentence would indicate that you don't fully understand how Active City Stop works and what it is designed to do.
Of course we could go round and round on this subject.....but I do get the fact that you are not interested in having it.
I just found it quite incredible that you would spend over 4.5 grand on options yet dismiss a £200 safety option that would more than pay for itself if ever activated.
By your logic if anti lock brakes were a cost option you would not pay for them because you are able to brake perfectly well for yourself using the cadence technique.
