Diesel Focus ST - miles to the tank?

This isnt a 'if you have to ask' thread, just want to know what sort of mileage owners get to the tank? Based on the size of the fuel tank and the mpg I rekon you should see 500+ to a tank. Is that absurd?

I have a new job and have the choice of commuting via train or car, car would mean getting a new diesel motor and I have a petrol Focus ST3 currently.

Obviously it will depend on the route and driving style, but 500 miles per tank is pretty easily achieved

Thank, thatll do nicely. I will get a second Focus ST for a laugh. Seems almost as cheap as the normal models when it comes to leasing.

The Ford dealer lease deal for 3 years,is for business and works out:

Initial payment 6 x 225 - 1350

Monthly payments 35 x 225 = 7875

Total cost for a 3 year lease 9225

If it was a personal lease and had to include VAT it would cost 11070

What planet are Ford on as you can get a ST-3 plus Navigation for 5621 over 2 years.

I get about 500 before the fuel light comes on showing 50 miles left. I don't do lots of long journeys though. Don't believe the 67 mpg quoted figure though, its tripe.

I got offered something like £320 a month for 24s for a ST-2, that also included all servicing and a 30,000 mile limit. Pretty good I thought. Nice car though, I'd still prefer a petrol...

We have a ST-2 TDCI and I have to agree, its got plenty of torque, but after about a week you really want a lot more power.

In the first 2k miles ours struggled to see above 45MPG with mainly my Mrs running it up and down A roads to work. Its gotten slightly better at about 47MPG on mixed driving these days.

All in all a decent capable car, but I wish it was the petrol one.

I have found me using the Panda 100HP more often for a hoon as its more fun although ball breaking harsh on the suspension side of things.

I do love the ST's seats they are rather nice.

I would love the petrol but as a company car, this is a better option on tax. The MPG is interesting, and I think manufacturers are just getting silly with their figures - I've driven a good few diesels over the past 10 years - and consistently they seem to end up combining between 45 & 50mpg.

I've had an Octavia 1.6Td while waiting for the Focus - it books at 74.3mpg, on a good run it does about 52 and is often combining at 48mpg....just a bit different then.....

I'm hoping the Focus will run at 45 when looking at combined.

Got my ST-3 Diesel Estate company car last week, love it

MPG is currently around mid 40's - mixture of the daily commute (70 miles) and running around on a weekend. Reckon i'll be getting between 525-550 miles to a tank at that.

Seems plenty torquey enough and the handling is superb, very planted and plush. Plus a lovely interior!

Boot is big enough for a weekends worth of fishing gear, the only thing I find with the new Focus Estates (this is the 2nd one i've had) is that rear passenger leg room is slim, my kids child seats are a tight fit but just about manageable... Tis a lovely car though Even managed a cheeky reg number

I hope they have remembered to apply the paint.

I would hate to be driving around with only the base coat like this chap...

I've had my primer grey st3 diesel about 4 weeks now. I'm loving it. Seems a lot of car for the money. I was falling out of love with cars after driving a VW amarok as my daily for the last 3 years. Thought perhaps my days of driving pleasure were waining even considered selling our 911 and my Morgan 3 wheeler (I've got over that consideration now). Now I'm thinking, might just put a deposit on a new RS. My honest opinion. The ST dirty diesel is a relatively cheap way to enjoy driving.

By the tone of your post I'm guessing you own a diesel.
I don't know where you have obtained those figures, but official 31-62mph in 4th gear has the petrol 1.4 seconds quicker.
The 185PS diesel certainly has more torque than the 250PS petrol which can make for more relaxed driving(and see the diesel initially out drag the petrol at certain speeds in a single gear), but the difference is not as much as you might think - 360Nm max for the petrol compared with 400Nm for the diesel.
The fact is at any speed the petrol will pull away from the diesel if making optimum use of the gears.
You buy whatever car you prefer for your own needs though, because both have their strengths.

Check out the coal fanboy! No diesel will be pulling away from me with 70hp less, regardless of any "slightly different" steering and suspension.

I will be honest I would rather have the petrol than the diesel.I was in the local VW dealers in the beginning of September to order a new Golf GTi and was told delivery would be 1st March 2016 if I was lucky so that put me off ordering one..I never thought about leasing but found the thread on PistonHeads interesting and spoke to a couple of lease companies with cars I would be interested in.

Then in the last week of September I had a call to say that a Ford dealer had contacted the lease company to say they had 30 Ford Focus ST 1,2 and 3 to sell by the end of Quarter 3.They were all diesels and instesd of paying £6200 for a two year lease the special price was £4733 and I had one day to make up my mind so I said yes.The petrol was not an option but if it was it would have been in the £7000 region.

I had a ST-2 with Nav and White paint included in the price,it was only slightly more than the ST-1 and a lot cheaper than the ST-3.Delivery should have been first week in November bur all Focus STs build were delayed by 4 weeks in Germany and had the car delivered on 9th December.

I am very impressed with the car especially as the 2016 model ST1 and 2 cars has grey wheels as standard now instead of silver.The car is just the right size,has a nice body kit,quality interior,I am running it in a bit but think it will be pretty quick and very economical so whats not to like.

I may be the only person who has sold a Porsche 996 and bought a Focus as an every day car but if I am honest overall I prefer the Focus ST but it is not in the same league as the car I have been asked to look after so I guess I have the best of both worlds.
