No Ford with an ST badge should be powered by coal. grumpy
We have a ST-2 TDCI and I have to agree, its got plenty of torque, but after about a week you really want a lot more power.

In the first 2k miles ours struggled to see above 45MPG with mainly my Mrs running it up and down A roads to work. Its gotten slightly better at about 47MPG on mixed driving these days.

All in all a decent capable car, but I wish it was the petrol one.

I have found me using the Panda 100HP more often for a hoon as its more fun although ball breaking harsh on the suspension side of things.

I do love the ST's seats they are rather nice.
I'm looking forward to getting my coal powered ST in 10 days...biglaugh

I would love the petrol but as a company car, this is a better option on tax. The MPG is interesting, and I think manufacturers are just getting silly with their figures - I've driven a good few diesels over the past 10 years - and consistently they seem to end up combining between 45 & 50mpg.

I've had an Octavia 1.6Td while waiting for the Focus - it books at 74.3mpg, on a good run it does about 52 and is often combining at 48mpg....just a bit different then.....rolleyes

I'm hoping the Focus will run at 45 when looking at combined.
Had the Focus for a couple of months now, and done 6,500 miles. It really is a fantastic car, the handling is awesome and it's decently quick mid range.

It's now consistently combining at 49.3mpg - so I get about 535 miles out of a tank. If doing mainly town driving it seems to run at about 41mpg on a motorway cruise it I've had it at 55mpg. So overall it's pretty good. Showed it's true colours on a recent cross country run - Peebles to Hawick, got 22mpg. As a company car it really exceptional.

One possible gripe may be the seats.....they are snug, which is good, but possibly causing some back issues. Not sure yet, will need some further investigation!!

Good news! I too am getting an oil burner next week! I have spent the last 25 years using vans as my company vehicle, albeit car derived vans, but after 6 months using a Transit Connect, I have decided to chop it in for an ST3 Estate. And I can't wait! Only down side is it seems to be one of the cars Ford have forgotten to paint? :-)

That is easily remedied - choose a colour other than Stealth. wink

if dispite your best efforts it keeps pulling away its a diesel.Between 50-75mph they are 2.2 seconds quicker than the petrol.
rofl If kept in 1 gear over 1 set of increments it might just be quicker. Slower if you use the gearbox or are on boost in the petrol or over all other increments in all other gears though. An enjoyable post.

I now have a STD! Ooerr, note to self, don’t say that out loud…

Just hit 500 miles and so far very impressed. Short shifting through the gearbox is a pleasure, a surge of power every time you select a new gear… Torque steer is there, but manageable and I so far haven’t found the need for more power. Sound is quite pleasant too, I know its electronic, but you soon forget you are driving a dirty diesel…

Interior is a very nice place to be, especially the seats and Sync2 works well.

Not really covered enough miles yet and have been quite heavy on the throttle, so MPG is not at its best, but it is still showing 38MPG!

Overall a great car and as you would expect, a massive improvement over a Transit Connect!
