Hi all. The drivers side diped beam/headlight has stopped working on my 52 plate pre facelift Mondeo and I can't seem to get it working again. Thought that it would just be that the bulb had gone, but unfortunately that's not the case. Here is a list of what I have done so far:

Replaced the bulb with a new one - does not work.

Swapped over new bulb to new bulb to passenger side to see if it was a duff one. Works on that side, so it's not a duff one. Put new bulb back in drivers side and it still does not work.

Checked all the appropriate fuses in both the engine bay and behind the glove box. They are all ok, so it can't be them.

Swapped starter relay and low beam relay over. Still does not work (car still starts with relays swapped over).

Pulled said relays back out and lightly cleaned the pins before putting them back in. Low beam/headlight on drivers side still does not work.

So has anybody got any ideas on what else I could try? It's really strange as all my other lights on the driver's side and indeed on the rest of the car work.

Bad earth on that connection? Do you have a voltmeter you can check things with?

Could be a bad earth. Unfortunately car electrics are not my forte. I did have a go at trying to measure the voltage on the connector to bulb itself and I got 10 volts, but I'm not sure if I measured it correctly. Also I visited a Ford dealer after work and they let me try a new low beam relay, just in case it was that, but it made no difference.

So now I really don't know what to do.

Is it halogen or xenon headlights?

Ballast or ignitor if its xenons, common fault.

It's normal standard halogen headlights and bulbs on both sides.

Might be the pins in the plug to the headlight unit itself.

I had a similar problem on my MK4 and it was down to one or two of the pins being corroded inside the plug and not making a decent contact. Had to very gently (because they're easy to snap) clean and sand them down. No problems since.

It turns out that you was almost right there. Took the car round to my brothers at the weekend, where he had a look at it and it turned out that one of the ground wire connections on the headlight multi-plug was a bit dodgy. All fixed and sorted now.
