I remember when the last Focus RS came out and I couldn't afford it at the time. Now I can, and I'm tempted to put a deposit on one. If I do it now, I'd get the car in 9 months. Now... I'm not sure how long I'd keep it as my lifestyle has changed a lot over the last few years and I work a lot more and have a young family who I love to spend time with.

So my question is this - should I put the deposit on? I really do fancy one, and it looks like an epic car. It would be something to look forward to in 9 months time.

On the other hand, maybe my family would prefer an M4 convertible (gf defo prefers these), as you could use it together with the roof down etc... but tbh I don't really feel like spending £50k+ on a car I probably won't use THAT much. I don't feel I'd feel so agrieved at spending £30k on a sports car that I didn't "go for a drive" that much in, and didn't depreciate that much, in terms of the Focus. Plus... I loved my 2007 Focus ST way back when I had it, and I really wanted the gen 2 RS but never got one lol.

So if I did put a deposit on now, got it in Jan / Feb, and ended up not having time to drive it... do you recon I'd lose a lot selling 6 months later? I literally don't know how much use I'd get from it as I work so much now (the Defender is perfect for me as I can chuck loads of stuff in it and use it for family, and it's a fun car to drive).

Edit to say I'd still be keeping my Defender and gf already has a car... so this would be something for fun I may or may not get time to drive and enjoy.

Hi, any particular reason why you want to wait best part of a year for one ?

Nobody wants to wait that long for a new car, but this is the current normal and longer time frame for a factory ordered RS without paying a premium over list price to line another persons pocket.
Obviously from your question you will have other ideas about this though. smile

I'm not that fussed about waiting to be honest - January is our busy time and it'd be something to look forward to. I don't have time to use it now anyway as we are too busy with work, and I normally get to relax a little more in Jan / Feb as the seasonal sales are good. Like I say above got other cars anyway, so not fussed about the wait.

Has anyone (non journalist) driven it yet? Can anyone tell me what they're like say, compared to the gen 2 Focus ST? Or compared to things like a 997, Cayman, stuff like that? I doubt I'll be able to get a test drive before putting down a deposit if I wanted one lol!

If your heart is ruling your head you'll end up buying one but the car (at the minute) is getting rave reviews and will be a cracking bit of kit. Thing is, when the next new thing comes along the same motoring press and journalists that are bumming it up now will be shooting it down and pointing out all its flaws.

Has anyone here actually driven one yet? Be good to hear from an actual owner.

Had ours for six weeks & done 1K miles. It doesent feel like it has 345bhp because there is no lag, the power delivery is very linear.
First thing you do when you start the engine is put it in Sport mode, everything sharpens up & the noise is addictive.
Its a long time (Evo V) since I have had a car that handles like this. The faster you go the more it comes alive.

Love it.
