3.0 v6 essex fueling advice please, to be honest this isn't in my tvr, it's in my mk1 transit hot rod. when i got the van it already had the capri 3.0 engine with a weber dfav 40 carb and a brandless electric fuel pump that looks like the range rover type facet red top copy. i couldn't get that carb to idle unless i got a horrid flat spot mid range so in the end gave up and replaced it with a much better weber 38 dgas, that carb is great but then the fuel pump gave up and i replaced it with a facet red top (delivers around 8psi) and a filter king pressure regulator/glass bowl filter as the dgas only needs around 2.5 psi. the issue i have is if stuck in traffic as i frequently am, the fuel pump becomes increasingly noisy and sounds really unhappy, and yesterday the engine cut out a few times in traffic. on the open road it goes like stink. i am wondering if the low fuel demand of being at idle for sustained period in london traffic means that the pressure regulator is making the pump suffer, does that make any sense? there is no fuel return to tank union on either the reg or the carb, shoud i replace the pump with a less powerful one? or am i worrying about nothing? advice please.
