I posted a thread in the ford forum but didn't get an responses so I thought I'd try here.

I've recently bought a '62 plate Focus Zetec S 182PS and have been thinking about a bit more power. Obviously I'm considering Mountune as they not only do warranty friendly upgrades but to my mind if they're warranty friendly then they're extensively tested. Although the MP200 kit is £1k they only advertise a 20HP increase from new software, a new intake and a new intercooler when I can also get an extra 20HP from a bluefin for 1/3 of that price.

Then someone said that Mountune purposely advertise their power gains very conservatively and I'm likely to a good bit more, possibly even double to 220HP but I can't find anyone that's ever done it.

Has anyone had a Mountune upgrade done, to any car and then managed a Dyno run and exceeded the quoted gain? I don't fancy £1k when £300 will do the job.

Thanks.

They're not the same ... one has thousands of hours of testing behind the map and the other a couple of hours.

One will void your warranty (if you have one) and one is warranty friendly.

If it was my choice I'd use another tuner such as peron smile

Forget the figures, it's all about drivability, and how it delivers the power. Most people I've spoken to much prefer how Mountune make the power, and how standard but faster it feels, rather than more obviously modified.

If you've got warranty and are worried about losing it then it's your only choice really.

I have a Focus ST (2015 Petrol Estate) that is fitted with the Mountune MP275 kit. I have owned the car for just over a year (since new) and I had the Mountune kit added when the car was approx. 3 months old.

I haven't had the car Dyno'd to check what power it is making. It feels a fair bit faster then the MK3 Focus ST I had before (which wasn't modified) but not as powerful as the MK2 Focus RS (again, unmodified) I had before that. So (purely guessing) the claimed 275bhp from the Mountune kit seems to be roughly correct.

Yep, had 3 states of tune on my Focus ST Mk2 (MP260, MR290 and MR310).

What's the old saying? Good, quick and cheap - pick any two. hehe

I haven't seen anyone quote more than 200bhp from the 1.6 Ecoboost. The same engine is available in a number of Volvo's and Polestar do a map for it, but again 200bhp is the limit.

Given that the car is out of warranty, i'd save your money and go with the Bluefin option.

I've got the FMP375 kit on my MK3 RS. As others have said it's not about the numbers, but how it drives. It's just a better car with it on, more responsive, feels quicker, just more fun!

I trust Mountune's maps. They're well constructed without any obvious downsides.

200 seems to be the limit on the stock airbox and intercooler, yes. I might just go for Bluefin, if I do it at all.

Guys ... you are aware the car produces 200 on overboost so I don't see how people are saying none of the tuners are stating over 200 bhp from a map when it has this power as standard silly

My car is a Focus Zetec S which, while having the 1.6 Litre Ecoboost engine, it isn't exactly the same as the one in the Fiesta ST. It doesn't have the overboost function.

So if I get that will the K&N Air filter fit? Will I see any benefit without doing anything else?

Probably very little benefit on its own, but with a remap it'll come into it's own - although it might sound better.

Typically the existing panel filter fits the MT kit. The fact the top part of the box is reused would suggest to me that it does fit.

ETA - Looking at this, it's the same part - https://www.mountunestore.com/collections/mk3-focu...

He's also selling this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mountune-Symposer-for-Fo...

Thanks Podie. I did get your email, interesting reading. Will have a think about the airbox but I doubt I'll go for the symposer.

He's selling the full kit actually: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mountune-Pro-Alloy-Inter...

I can't answer your question regards the dyno test post the upgrade however would like to input that I've had the MR230 installed on my 64 plate Fiesta ST. It's been installed 1yr now, covered about 10,000 miles since as is still as good as it was the day it was installed, never skipped a beat and is a giant killer. An awesome upgrade, highly driveable car with heaps of torque. Albeit expensive compared to some 'other' tuners but I'd do it again and will use Mountune for my next Ford (ordered) when it arrives without hesitation. Worth every penny for me.
