Its official: the Mondeo has marmite seats! hehe

It took me a while to get used to my Mondeo's seats (TDCi Zetec) - the usual, feels like the lumbar support is never fully retracted. Funnily enough despite not feeling like the most comfy seats, I never have back ache after a long drive.

I guess some people are 'Mondeo shaped' and others are not...

Apologies for digging up an old thread.

I have an 04 Ghia Estate and, like others have said, the seats are awful. The driver's seat isn't too bad but the passenger's side is so bad that my wife now refuses to sit in it and is insisting I either change the car or get new seats

Do the seats from other Mondeo models (eg Ghia X or ST ) fit straight in?

How much work is involved?

How much better are Ghia X seats?

Thanks

The Ghia X full leather seats are nice, and come with Lumbar support so you should be able to adjust them to suit your needs.

Think they are fully electric though so you may need to look at how the looms fit together, though the subframes etc are the same so should just fit right in.

Anyone know if seats from other Fords/cars will fit in a '04 Mondeo?

I don't want to pay hundreds of pounds for something that really ought to come as standard!

It's not suprising the last owner only kept the car for a year!

What totally spoils the car for me is the driver's seat.
On roundabouts & right hand bends, the support from the seat is almost non-existent, yet on left hand bends you are held in the seat fairly well.
The problem is that there is a plate which holds the airbag on the seat RHS, giving support to the right shoulder, yet on the LHS there is no plate, allowing the seat shoulder cushion to deform badly, giving no support. This means that I (unconsciously) tended to sit with my spine bent. Consequently I have had from Christmas time, a sore lower back & left hip.
Ford is aware of my complaint, & seat back cushion was replaced at about 6000 miles with short term improvement only.
On holiday, I drove hire car for 2 weeks, with no pain at all. Two days after arriving home, the pain returned.
Ford arranged for the car to be examined by Ford Fleet at my local Ford garage. I arranged time off work, only for the Ford examiner NOT TO TURN UP!
I'm now waiting for a suitable ‘hand me down’ company car to become available.

Too right, tried a Focus ST whilst in the Ford garage. Trouble is the Recaros are a bit on the expensive side, & the company won't allow mod's.
If I have to last 3 years with it, & the sell on price is ok, thats on the list. They would make an otherwise good car much better.

They should have made them standard but then the ST needs some things above the other modelswink

Interesting reading! I have had an 05 titanium x for just over a year now and mostly do pretty short journeys. However, once or twice a year I have a 6 hour+ trek to Scotland. After about 2 hours the seat becomes almost unbearable, not so much the back but the "butt", and I end up getting out in agony. I have tried different positions but to no avail. Are there any other options aprt from maybe changing the seat. Before this I have had 2 Ghia X's with full leather that were so comfortable and would arrive in Glasgow fresh as a daisy.

[quote=LOL1948]I have had a a Mondeo Titanium X 2.2 TDCI on a 54 plate,22000 mls.for 5 weeks. The car is superb, apart from one thing. The drivers seat was SO uncormfortable-I was limping within a few days-that I have actually changed both front seats.I have bought 2 front seats from a 04 plate Ghia X,full leather,8 position(£200 Ebay) and what a difference.

Did you have to do any extra work to get all the electrics to work on the seat, or is the wiring there already?

I have a similar problem with my seats!

Currently a garden chair cushion is being tested...

I used to own a Ghia X with full electric seats and they were uber comfortable. I then changed to a Titanium X without fully electric and have to agree that they took a little getting used to however they seem acceptable now.

I have a new Mondeo 2.0 TDI Eco boost Titanium and have driven 8000 miles so far and I have never experienced such hard and uncomfortable seats. I now have terrible back pain within minutes of sitting in the car. The seat where your bottom goes has those wing bits pointing up and hurt my legs and buttocks and Im quite a slim guy.

The back of the seat arches my back and gives me shoulder pains.

In 30 years of driving I have never experienced such an uncomfortable drive, my wife's SEAT is better. The rest of the Mondeo is excellent but come on Fords, sort the seats out.

Ok the MK4 Mondeo Titanium X has a real problem with its drivers seat, it's crap for comfort.
It was sell the car or fix the problem.

I had mine re padded at B Trim in Enfield http://b-trim.co.uk/, and feels a whole lot better now.
I also could not stand the hard bumps coming from the 18" alloy wheels and tyres, so I changed the tyres from 235/40/18 to 235/45/18.

The difference it made was dramatic, more air between the road and rim improved the ride, most manufacturers like BMW VW Audi now have increased the depth of the tyres due to customer complaints of hard ride quality. So I followed suit.

The car should have never been released by Fords in such a poor state, however it does look great.

And now comfortable at last.
