Hi all, I am experiencing a number of annoying electrical problems on my 2002 Focus TDCI Ghia (80k miles) which may or may not be related :

1. Traction control light, ABS warning light and handbrake warning light are always on. This started as an intermittent fault but now lights are on all the time.

2. LH front indicator does not always work straight away when turned on. Initially the others flash at a higher rate as if a bulb has gone but then goes back to normal when light starts to work.

3. RH headlight main beam does not work.

4. Outside temp. gauge shows erratic readings, varying between +/- 30°C though generally around 10°C less than actual.

5. LH headlight dipped beam does not work.

Checked all usual things re. lights such as bulbs, fuses, relays etc, and have changed battery.

Has anyone had similar problems and know how to fix them? any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Had a few weird electrical issues on mine recently, although mine is the latest shape, only 2 years old.

Ive seen the speedo momentarily drop by 10 mph or so, then move back up to the correct speed again

Ive come back to my car to find the stereo playing, its turned itself ON some point after I have switched off the ignition, got out and locked the car.

Then, only yesterday it was low on diesel so I put in a tenners worth at the local garage. Usually it registers straight away, but not this time. The low fuel warning still flashed up saying "44 miles to go" ??? The fuel gauge hadnt moved from where it was before. after several miles of driving I noticed the fuel gauge slowly starting to creep up, then a fuel more miles the fuel warning went off, I switched to the "miles to go" mode and the display said "120 miles to go". after a few more miles the display then said "156 miles to go". <this is the first time this has happened>

really bizarre!

The earths under the battery should be your first port of call.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

Unfortunately I have already undone the earth connections and cleaned them up, both those under the airbox and the one on the off side inner wing.

Any other suggestions?

It still sounds like an earth fault, possibly high resistance in the battery earth area.

Quick update, ended up taking car to main dealer. It turned out that part of the loom was kn******d.
So 12 days later and and with a £900 hole in my pocket, the car is back to normal.

Kin HOW MUCH !!!!! bet it was still an earth problem and the ford monkeys just replaced the loom for the hell of it , i would have sourced the loom and done it myself , feck paying that much for some one to run cables and plug stuff in !
