Hi drove pals st24 today, it drove nice pulled ok etc but the gearbox was notchy and vague is this a feature or a problem? Coming from an Alfa 6 speed which is pretty good. The engine had more bottom end for sure but less response. The mondeo handled the twistys pretty well!

Sounds like your mates box isn't in its first flush of youth. The MTX75 5-spd box is a gem. Driven 'em in loads of big displacement Mondeo's and X-Types.

They can be a bit notchy when cold… but sounds like either the fluid needs changing, or the cables have stretched.

If the you think the ’24 handles OK, try the ST200 with it’s revised suspension… wink

Must say it did suprise me re the handling. Mucho car for £1k on a T reg, the engine was very smooth and quiet. Impressed!

Does it have a heavy flywheel or does the ECU damp the revs? It took longer for the revs to drop than i'm used to..

The ECU holds engine revs high between gear changes. Many cars do this nowadays and it is a pain in the posterior!

It's the EGR... some people fit a blanking plate to stop it from happening, but personally I've never found it an issue.
