2.00 lt Petrol engine
Discussion
Having chewed the fat on the Ford Focus TDCi and the TDi units (after advice on here) I found myself test driving a Focus 2.00 lt petrol engined car. Ford seem to supply so many different engine capacities I end up confused. The next one down on the year 2000 Focus seems to be an 1.8 lt unit. Can't see 200cc doing much different?? any explanations on characteristics please.
You also get the MTX75 box on the 2.0 rather than the IB5 on the 1.8 (and smaller engines) IIRC - you can tell as it has the lift up reverse. Much better box IMO, after using one for a while, the IB5 feels like it's made of plastic.
I ran a 2000 2.0 ESP for a while a couple of years back, decent car, can pull pretty well - mine ran 142bhp/136lbft with just a panel filter.
The TC is pretty primitive IMO, was a real pain if trying to pull away quickly on poor surfaces (but can be turned off) - but the ESP seemed decent enough, I only ever got it to kick in on purpose, but seemed to sort the car out when it did. Comes as standard on the prefacelift 2.0 models IIRC, then as an option on the facelift.
