Mk3 Mondeo Steering problem...
Discussion
The steering on my Mk3 Mondeo seems to be "loose" somehow.
Basically, there is about 3cm's of "play" in the steering wheel before it will actually connect with anything to change the direction of the car...
...effectively, if the wheels are straight, I must turn the steering wheel "in air" for 2cm before it "connect" to anything to make the front wheels turn.
This is particularly annoying when passing a left/right kink in the road as the car jerks in the direction the "connection" is made...
Does anyone know what is causing this, or what I need to get repaired?
Thanks in advance

Sounds to me like something is badly worn or has come adrift! I really wouldn't mess about with something like this, it needs to be popped up on the ramp and given a good looking at. It might be something as trivial as the bush where it goes through the bulkhead, or as bad as a universal joint breaking up and about to let go.
