Punto - Ford Transit

hi,
i currently have a fiat punto. been having problems with it recently, as well as im paying over the odds on insurance for driving a bloody 1.2. i think the head gasket might have gone, and tax runs out next month so am starting to look for new car. came across the idea of a ford escort or transit van as i think it is cheap to tax and insure. is this true?? i am 20 and the idea of a diesel van seems good, how long can i expect to run a transit for?? any help would be great, thanks.
