Im 18 and had this problem. Just get a nice car thats group 2 or something. Save the money until you get 2/3years NCB (BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT CRASH AND HIKE UP 17/18YEAR OLDS INSURANCE

Cheapest insurance policy i could get as a learner on my own policy(dad named driver) on a new ka(£5k value) was £1800. With my first year NCB i could either pay another £1800 for insurance on a new XJ6, or £585 with my ka.
