My girlfriends family have a mk2 escort they are considering selling and are looking to know roughly how much it would be worth. It's a 1.3 Escort "L", 1976 with 41k miles on it. From what I gather it was owned by an elderly lady and has sat in a shed ever since she decided to stop driving, around 15 years ago! It really is in amazing condition, couldn't believe it when I seen it. Anyway here's some pictures of it. Can the people who know about these cars than me please let me know what it is worth. Whether it's for sale or not will depend on what it is worth.

So what do we reckon this car would be worth??

I have a 1979 1.6 Ghia with only 26k on the clock from new. This is the top of the range model with all the original features. Difficult to value but I would say mine is £4-£5k. But it isn't for sale.

My advice is keep yours. With that low mileage you would never get anything as good for the money you would get from selling it. There are a lot of escorts out there but very very few with low mileage and original features. These could be very rare in 10-20 years!

Have a look here for what could be done to that shell.....

Like you say, with the demand for good Mk2s the std cars will quickly disappear altogether.

Mind you it would be very nice with a BDG in it.... cloud9

Not having a go at you, and I know you're across the water etc. but £5400 is top top money for this.. I am not saying it wont go for that but I do know the market to some extent and wouldnt imagine many would pay more than £3k for it.

Fantastic though Mk2 Escorts (no 'u') in rally trim are, there is something about seeing a proper unmolested one in this sort of condition. Im afraid rally-prepped Mk2s are in danger of becoming the equivalent of Chav cars.

If it's solid people will pay decent money for it!! (Original strut tops etc), but it could end up being turned into a rally car!!

Prices of oldskool Fords have rocketed in recent times

You're about 20 years too late for that, good rally escorts are now commanding £50k plus, the price of parts is not for your average chav...

Yep I am aware of this - infact if your Estate is for sale name your price (email me via profile if you want), but regardless there are very few people willing to pay that sort of money for a Mk2.

Sorry for the sp!

Well, the family is happy enough to let the car sit in the shed for a while longer if it doesn't sell. They've basically priced it at what they think it's worth and if the market value is less than that then it's fine and can go back into the shed.

In saying that tho there has been alot of interest in it and the family would likely take a good bit less than that if they knew it was going to a "good home".
