My mondeo (02 plate) cut out when i bought it. It cuts out while going along with your foot on the pedal, there is no indication of sluggishness before cutting out just instant loss of power. It wasn't the Cam Position sensor, tried that. The AA plugged in and said it was the fuel pump pressure sensor and pointed it out, I removed it and Fords system says it's a temperature sensor????? Plus it 'shouldn't be on my car' because the ford system says it was only installed into cars from 02 onwards but mine was built in 01 so it didn't come up on their system!

Anyone got any idea?

You get the flashing glowplug light as well?

Coolant Temp Sensor would make it run like a bag of nails but it shouldnt cut out. It does sound sensor related from what you've said so far, but the car should still run

Any turbo or ignition modification that would cause a fuel cutoff?

Only other thing I could think of would be the fuel pump, and you really dont want it to be that (£850)

It was one of the sensors in the fuel pump, so I'm a bit confused as to why there would be a temp sensor in there, it's a bit strange. Even the bloke at the Ford parts desk was confused! He brought a schematic of the fuel pump up on the pc screen, I pointed to the sensor but it said not applicable when he put the mouse over the sensor on the picture; the model of mondeo I drive was built before that sensor was used in TDCi's!! I ordered it anyway as i had taken it out of the car minutes before!

The yellow light comes on yeah. If it's the diesel pump that needs replacing then I might actually cry! Wouldn't want to pay for labour but not much of a mechanic really!!

If the pump was knackered it would presumably get sluggish before cutting out but it doesn't it is quite sudden, from running well to no power/engine dead!? It restarts straight away most of the time, sometimes it won't start, engine turns okay, battery is good etc, usually when it's hot that happens. Seems more likely to start when it's cold!!

Sounds a bit like the problem I had. Mine was the cam position sensor and when it was replaced I had the wiring loom it attaches to replaced as well. Did you replace the sensor alone or just the wiring?

I read this had to be done as the newer sensors (i think they may be grey in colour) output a higher voltage signal than the old. The mechanic who did the work said he didn't think it was necessary but I insisted.

Also, you can put the Mondeo's dash into diagnostic mode and it will output error codes, which may be helpful. Hold down the trip meter reset button when you turn the car on and eventually the readout changes. You can cycle through the different modes by pressing the trip meter reset button. Have a search on this forum for what those error codes mean, I'm sure someone has posted it before.
