Ford Fiesta Zetec S 1.6 16v 3dr - Engine 'Pinking'
Discussion
Afternoon All,
My otherhalfs 2000 'W' Fiesta 1.6 Zetec S has suddenly started playing up.
On monday she was on the way to the petrol station when the engine 'stuttered'. She continued on, put in half a tank of fuel, drove out of the petrol station and the car started misfiring. She took the car straight home (1/2 mile at the most).
We drove the car on monday night to where I work and on the following day I replaced the ignition coil (black box to the right hand side of the cam cover where the HT leads come from) and that sorted the misfire.
However, on driving the car it now seems that it is 'pinking' (metallic sound) which occurs when the engine is underload (above 3000rpm). I have checked the plugs, gapped them up and all seems well. I have also added an octane booster as she insists on buying crappy fuel from the supermarket!!
I am now scratching my head... any ideas?
(I am sure this isn't a fuel contamination issue as the car has stuttered a few times recently)
Many thanks in advance chaps/chapesses!
