Seriously, is it just me or has anyone else found the Mk 2 focus trim really rattly.

Mine is an 06 1.8 TDCI, and in all honesty i have never driven a car whos trim and door panels etc rattle and creak so much, loosing the will to live with it so going home tonight to remove rear passengre door trim and boot lid trim to try and narrow down where they are coming from.

Ive ran oil into all dash and door trim joints and its no better - anyone experienced similar?, or can narrow down to the trim which could be the culpret

the only problem ive ever had with my focus st is that it has some annoying rattles. took it to the dealer to fix under warranty which they managed not to do then next time it went in for a service asked them to look again and they told me trim was only covered for 1 year in warranty and the 3 years related to mechanicals. tossers. just learnt to live with them, but how hard can it be for them to just build it with no rattles. i had an 02 reg fiesta zetec-s with less noises.

Likewise, not a bad car in any respect apart from the rattles, i bought it to replace an 06 audi a4 to free up some cash with the intention of running up some high mileage and was plesently surprised with it. It seems to be the hotter weather has brought out the creaks and rattles as previously and first thing in the morning its fine, just after its been sitting all day in the heat it becomes almost unbearable

Sounds like you have found your answer, check the vents on the dash up by the windscreen as i know some cars had issues there. Something is obviously expanding and rubbing somewhere...............

i know a couple of the rattles are due to the leather in the rear and the clutch has a slight rattle and the drivers door rubber creaks a bit up tight turning steep driveways. needs some lube i think. none of them are loud just a bit annoying when the radio is off.

Hi guys,

serious creaks come from the back end of mine, the only thing i can narrow it down to is either / or both the boot lid trim and the rear passenger door panel. Its unbelievable how lould when going over speed ramps and turning into my drive that im right on the verge of getting rid of the car for that very reason. Shame really as the car really surpassed my expactations in all other ways.

Maybe this weekend will get the trim off and a load of draught excluder between the trim and bodywork to see if it helps

What can sometimes happen is that when a car is sold (new or more especially second hand) the valeters clean everything with their miracle clean-o-spray. Eventually some of the spray evaporates, leaving a residue which makes 2 surfaces in contact with each other creak like a creaky thing. It isn't always the visible surfaces either, as when they spray it on, capillary action pulls it into gaps.

First rain tonight in about 3 weeks and no creaks, nothing, absoulty quiet.

Must be the rubber seals around the boot lid and rear door where a bit of rain has now wet the seal.

Hopefully!!!! Ill try some silicon grease on the rubber

Guys,

Major source of creaks sorted, silicon greased all door rubbers on the back half of the car and still creaking like a good one. Sat in the back while the misses drove me around listening for creaks, finally tracked it down to the rubber running along the very top of the back door, the one with the felt like material which sits against the body work of the car.

Greased both sides and what a difference, I initially did just the one which was creaking and could still hear some noises, did the drivers side and sorted, like a new car again.

When its warm and been dry for a while, push against the very top of the door frame (rubber above window) and if theres any creaks its time to get the grease out.
