Hi all,

I was wondering about my 1999 mk1 focus keys. When I bought the car it came supplied with one 3 button remote key and one plain key with no buttons which had a blue square on the top and a small plastic tag with a number on it. Can I use the second plain key to make a new remote key or do I need to use my existing remote key to programme a new remote one? I was just wondering whether using the plain key as a spare would be feasible or whether I need to make a new remote key before I loose the current one I have.

Thanks, Spoon

I'm pretty sure you can use the spare key to get a new remote key cut. Someone with firmer knowledge will be along shortly to confirm/correct...

Thanks Julian, I was unsure if the non button key could be used to programme a new button one. I think I'll just keep the keys I've got currently for the time being then.

get a new remote and key from ford. about 45 quid ish. don't pay them to program it, just get them to cut the brass bit so it mechanically works.

to code to PATS (the immobilisor)
1. put your original remote in the ignition and turn to position 2 then off. take key out.
2. put your original normal key in the ignition and turn to position 2 then off. take key out.
3. put new remote key in ignition and turn to position 2. red pats light should go out. start car.
keys all coded.

only works if car has had less than 8 keys in its life.

to code to locks-

1. use any remote key
2. turn key to position 1.
3. turn key in the following pattern - 2-1-2-1-2-1-2-1-2.
4. gem module should beep.
5. press and hold any button on either remote. pats light will flash and then go steady. release button only when light goes steady.
6. DON'T turn key or remove it.
7. press and hold any button on other remote. same story with pats light.
8. turn key off.

Try it and enjoy.

Hope this was worthwhile typing. smile

Thanks Dave, that is very useful info. Looks like I will need to get a new remote key cut afterall as a precaution if I loose my only existing one. Thanks again for the programming advice, will come in handy smile

Could anyone confirm if this procedure works on a 2008 Fiesta ST?

Thanks
