220's ALL have Recaro's, half leather will mean the other half is Alcantara, there were NO cloth seats.

Fabulous as my ST220 is, I think I'd rather have the VXR8
Cheers. I shall let you know how the two compare after a few weeks of ownership smile

With luck I'll be viewing my second 220 this weekend, fully loaded 54 plate with 60k on the clock. Hope it's worth the trip but at least I have an excuse to have a nice drive through Wales in the 220 smile Later tax £245, is that right? BTW, has anyone ever cpome across an ST without the ST badge on the steering wheel? I know Ford build is sometimes not the best, just hoping it hasn't had a new airbag!!!
Dave, the tax on my ST220 is £215, it's gone up £5 for each year since I've owned it (£205 originally).

I would suggest the ST you are looking at has had a new airbag.

Is Alacantra 'better'?

What options were there on the 220?

Is alcantra better? I'd say thats a matter of opinion, I'm not too fussed either way if I'm honest.

I'll be interested to hear about it, although I suspect I know what your conclusions will be already - the ST220 is (well executed) warm-over of a family car/rep-mobile when compared to a monster like the VXR8. Still love mine though.

Yeah, this one had leather/Alcantara.. Was this an option on the ST220 then? I thought leather Recaros, Recaros with leather or perhaps Leather Recaros were your only options? wink

That was the option, along with colour options (only certain colours with certain body colours).

Off the top of my head...

  • Xenons
  • Sunroof
  • Parking sensors
  • Heavy duty battery
  • Sat Nav
  • Heated rear seats or Rear Seat Audio (RSA)
Dave will know the rest... smile

No, it's most definitely not.

Band K costs £245 as of April this year.

Thought i'd resurrect an old thread instead of starting a new one, how does the 220 compare mpg, drivng enjoyment, servicing costs etc compare to the 3.0 X Type, or 330ci? Any opinions and advice appreciated thanks.

I am happy to report that I am now driving the Mondeo again full time, and boy have I missed it! The VXR8 wasn't much cop so I sold it, interesting read below perhaps?

Nice to see this thread pop up again.

Yesterday I was considering just getting another 2k-3k car on a credit card, something like an ST200, but the main reason I'm changing cars is to get something newer, so the ST220 is back in the sights again wink

This is surprising to hear, but I'm glad you're happy moving back to the faithful old '220. I can't help feeling though that you might have ended up buying a one-off bad car. Surely not all VXR8s are that bad?
