About a quid?! Seriously you can get one now for £5K, wait until next year when the VED changes and i'm hoping to get a newer one for less than £8k.

As Dave says, you can get an early car (pre-facelift) for 5k. Spec'd up facelift ones cost a bit more, and I bought from a dealer (and traded in the ST200) so paid a little more as well.

Given the depreciation curve on the Mk2 Mondeo, I reckon the early cars will hit £4k in the next 12 months (for decent spec / mileage) and the later ones (like mine) will probably drop a few grand as well.

alwasy wanted an st220 but fuel and tax would be seriously crippaling for me so i guess i will just have to stick with my 2ltr 4pot mk3 mondeo for now - saying that the 2ltrs pull pretty well for what they are

Just seen this thread.

Podie, depending on what the new job's travelling involves, I may be looking at the ST TDCi - Have you driven one? How does it compare to the 220?

(Other than not sounding like this!)

Any others with comparisons?

Cheers ears

Which particulars do you want. Haven't driven a 220 but can compare it to an ST200 for you. If you look for an ST TDCi remember that Recaro's were quite expensive options so there are few about with them fitted - and I'd recommend them, though the half-leather seats are pretty good comfort wise anyway! Speed wise, it's slower obviously, but much more responsive on the motorway and accelerating anywhere mid-range.

Sadly, though, the 2.2 TDCi does have quite a few problems - failing injectors, EGR problems so make sure you do some proper research before (if) you do buy (sadly, all modern diesel engines do).

Oh, and you'll get 40+mpg (46mpg over 15k miles for me) compared to 20 to 30 in the 220.

Snap smile The red leather isn't quite that garish in real life, but it really goes well and makes a nice contrast with the subtle silver exterior.

Paid £6500 for a 50k mile 02 plate at the start of the year, including a years warranty. Was from a Ford dealer too, so maybe a bit pricey, but was in great condition.

As a pre-facelift car its lacking a lot of the toys of the later ones. No cruise control, 5 speed box, crap radio and speakers (binned), only 2 settings for the heated seats - "off", and "toasted testicles", no folding mirrors, no auto wipers / headlights. It does have the xenons though which are great.

I'm suprised you say it is understeery Witchfinder? What tyres have you got on it?

That's one of the things that suprised me most about my car was the amazing grip and total lack of understeer or torque steer. I struggle to get the ESP to light up, even driving like a tw@t in the wet. That is on both Contis and F1 Asymmetrics.

I quite agree, although my first preference was a performance blue estate with the light grey interior. Sadly it was out of my price range frown I'm always on the lookout for a potential trade

I have (admittedly shagged) Continental SportContact 2s. See the tyre thread for more about this, actually. I am looking for a good, economical replacement tyre at the moment.

I had Hankook Ventus Sport K104's fitted to the ST200 - and they managed over 20k. I'd certainly consider them for the ST220 when the time comes.

I fitted 4 Eagle F1 Asymmetrics just before I went the ring, the grip seems ever lasting on high speed corners. You can really feel the bolsters pushing into the side of your chest.
Hi Gary! justlivyalife herewink.

Having had some Assymetrics fitted for the last few thousand miles, took the ST TDCi on the track yesterday - did about 15 laps and the grip was just astounding - brakes were starting to give towards the end but it was great fun! smile.

I was taking most of the bends at the Nurburgring at motorway speeds, you can certainly throw the Mk3 about!

What track did you go on - how was the car?
Castle Combe - I've been there many times over the last few years in my various cars - third time I've been in the TDCi - excellent handling car, though the brakes could do with upgrading if I was to do it continually! Handling exceptionally good and despite a lot of provocation I only got the back to twitch once or twice!

Edit: Does the 220 have the same suspension as the TDCi?
