I reckon this is the new MX5 of PH.

Anyone seen the Kreissieg exhausts on youtube?

The exhausts? Do a search on YouTube, there's about 14 videos demonstrating the exhaust, and it's f**king loud!

And I love loud exhausts!

The Mrs won't let me buy the S4 - not yet anyway smile Looks like I'll be keeping it for the time being.

There's no need whatsoever for a massive chav exhaust on the ST220. It sounds fab as it is, and too much more would ruin the character of the car. I think I'd go for the Blueflame exhaust at the most.

It's just a straight through system with no cats or silencers...

There must be something, because they seem to be able to switch between NOISY and REALLY NOISY. Not sure I could live with that, but woah, hell of a sound!

I've seen plenty of chopped up ST220 exhaust systems and most sound like that with nothing in the way of cars or silencers.

This lot may have put butterfly valves in.

Even with cats and the silencers removed, they are too loud to live with.

This appears to be the place to ask, so here goes, would I be happy going from a Mk1 Focus RS to an ST220 ? Anybody here done it ?

Plus points for me :

More space.
V6.
More comfort.
V6. (yes, I know it put it twice wink)

But how would it weigh up to my current car ? Short of an extended test drive, it would be good to here from those in the know.

My RS doesn't please me all of the time, but on a spirited drive, it hits all the right spots, it's all the other times it does my head in a bit frown

Ta smile

Dont get me wrong i like the st220 they are a very underated car imho & have looked at getting an estate version a few times BUT i would never step out of my Focus Rs to one, i have done 50k in my Rs & must admit that a couple of times have thought about changing it but it always wins me back after a drive. Why does it do your head in?????

Just those times when you have had enough for the day, want a comfortable drive home and the RS is trying to smash your spine at every imperfection it finds. Also things like the costs and the fact it is a bit 'in your face'. Also had it coming up to 5 years now, so guess I am just getting itchy feet ? I can never think of what I can replace it with though without a serious upgrade frown

Compared to a lot of modern cars the running costs are not bad (inc the st220) but mine is very good on long drives, does yous have aftermarket suspension??

Replacing a FRS with an ST220 is fair game I think. It depends what you are after.

As you pointed out, the Mondeo is more comfortable (by a long way) and it has a V6. You will not lose out in performance, I've dispatched many FRS's albeit not by much. Handling wise, I've been in both round track, and would say the only noticable advantage the FRS has, is the ability to scream out of 1st gear corners on full lock. Other than that, they are very closely matched.

I'm surprised. The Mondy is a capable car, but I personally wouldn't have put it in the same league as an FRS.

Quaife LSD available for the Mondy... which makes life more fun. smile

All standard, but could no doubt do with replacing frown

Probably good to mention that I do not use it in the way it was intended for use. It has never been on track, etc..

The FRS may have a quicker 0-60 book figure, but 0-100 are neigh on the same, and after that the FRS will be left behind. Tried and tested, many a times, however round a track I do think the FRS has the edge, its slightly stiffer and a bit lighter, but both car's are not leagues apart.

If memory serves me right, they were developed back to back at the Nurburgring in 2002

It's good to know, but it's also not part of my consideration, it will just be used for road/spirited driving and not used on track, or in any traffic light Grand Prixs wink

Thanks for all the comments from everyone though, it's always good to hear from those that have experienced the cars as opposed to the "Jeremy Clarkson said......" generation smile

Thanks for the offer, I am down on the South Coast, just along from Brighton, I think I will pop along to the dealer at the weekend though. Still in the infant stage of wanting to sell, and everytime I have got close to selling up before, I have become weak and decided I can't part with the RS hehe
