Seems to be a torque limiter in 1st and 2nd gear. Is this to save the DMF or just wheelspin - can it be removed easily?
Helps the DMF and the gearbox. Mine has the limiters removed and the lag between the gears removed also.

Hi,
I've just stumbled across this thread as I'm currently on the search for an ST220 as a fun family car, I haven't read through the entire thread but is there any real problems to look out for & is the facelift better than the no facelift or are they much of a muchness?
Cheers
Jamie

If anyone is looking for some tires, I have a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 225/40 R18 for the Mondeo ST220 up for grabs - posted in the classifieds section (under wheels/tires!). I put research into these before buying, and they are the best tires for this car, and a way to save yourself a good bit of cash if yours are getting old! Or message me and I'll respond!

Otherwise in response to the man above, in terms of facelifts, I believe they are mostly much of a muchness, except for the first facelift that put in the 6-speed box, which is well worth it. I think the Sony stereo came in on this model too, which is also well worth it! Great cars the ST220. Several friends of mine have been thoroughly impressed especially if they drove it! It's just a shame I am having to get rid of mine now.

Is the ST220 suitable for towing? Just seen somebody say a towbar can't be fitted.....

A tow bar CAN be fitted however the car is not homologated for towing according to the brochure. I would ***guess*** that may void any insurance. There must also be a good reason for Ford stating this.

Bah.

So the oil leak I thought I'd cured by replacing the rocker cover gasket, is still there. There's a bit of a coating on the sump and gearbox and somehow on the exhaust downpipe where it bends.

Are there any common causes of this?

There are what look like some oily deposits on the side of the head around the water pump area but I'm not sure it'd permeate that far? It almost looks like it's originating from the other side.

Grr.

After doing some research, I'm certainly hoping this is the case and not the crank seal. I'll get under it at the weekend and have a good old investigate to be sure. Any way to see to be sure?!

Might see how much my little local Ford place want to do it as I don't think I can be arsed with those rusty downpipe bolts hehe

Another question if you don't mind:

My MOT just got an advisory for slight movement in one of the front suspension strut top mounts.

How easy are they to change? The internet is, as usual, quite lacking in decent information/tutorials.

Also do I need both of these:

Sorry for the spammage...

What pipe is this? It appears to be weeping/leaking oil...

I have since discovered that it is in fact a power steering pipe. If that's the source of the "oil" leak then that's not too disastrous.

Yep, power steering. Bloody stuff goes everywhere with the smallest of leaks.

Hmm let's hope this is the source of the mess underneath then! Will have a proper look on. Sunday. The pipe (and no doubt labour) costs a fortune though frown
