Sorry for the thread resurrection - I'm looking at buying a Mondeo ST TDCi so was searching for threads and got sucked into looking at the awesome Fords on display here.
I've got a soft spot for Ford, largely caused by growing up around my dad's cars: a Mk1 XR2, two Mk2 XR2s, an XR3i, S2 RST and a Mk1 Mondeo Ghia 4x4 (recently deceased at almost 200k miles)
Anyway, my first Ford was a Mk1 XR2. £475 netted me this bad boy in 2002 - When Mk1s were still cheap!!
It was a dog of a car really. Rusty, unreliable and not the best option for a student on a budget. I absolutely loved it though. Eventually it had to go to be replaced by a Mk5 Zetec-S
I absolutely adored this car. It really was my pride and joy.
Sadly my other half borrowed it one afternoon to go to the shops. It came back like this.
Off to car heaven it went. Complete write-off.
After that I had a few Ford-free years until 18 months ago my grandparents moved in with my parents. An extension and garage conversion to accommodate them meant my dads RST, which he'd owned from new, didn't have a home any more. My inheritance came early! but my dad still refers to it as 'his' Turbo...
It's done more than 100k miles is a bit rusty and is probably almost worthless in its current condition, but I love it and will never part with it. At the moment it's off the road and is basically an ornament. The positives are it costs me buttons on a classic car insurance policy and I've got plenty of time to save the cash for a full restoration.
