Well, as anyone with a Wedge will know you get the odd comment from those 'not in the know' along the lines of 'so, who makes them - Triumph?'. Last night I was quite thankful for a friendly bunch of Triumph owners being around.

I had taken my car out for a blast around the country lanes near me and as I drove slowly through a village I noticed some guys in a pub car-park standing round an old car with an open bonnet. So, turned round and went back to see what was going on. Turned out to be local Triumph owners club meeting. Thought I'd stop and have a quick look round.

After a stroll round the car-park looking at Spitfires, Heralds etc I jumped back in my car.........Bl**dy thing wouldn't start !! Anyway, got a jump start from one of the Triumph owners and after several embarrased 'thank-you's I was on my way.

So, just in case there are any Herts Triumph owners on PH ....THANKS!!

Don't laugh, but I was out in my 400se once in Matlock and stopped at a pedestrian crossing.
Have to confess I was posing a bit - roof down, shades on, car newly waxed, blipping the throttle gently.
Bubble well and truly burst by a scrawny git and his 10 year old son as they crossed the road in front of me.

Son: " Wow dad, look at that!
Dad: "Grunt" (peers in my direction)
Son: "what is it dad?"
Dad: "TR7"

Grrrrrr!

well, if I had read your earlier post about 'Anyone live in Whitwell' I would have known you lived there and I would have popped in!! Apart from drinking you must have had your ears covered if you didn't hear me outside

Oh well, there's always time for us to meet up for a drink some other time

It would have been the Triumph Sports Six club meet.
They cater for all cars based on the Herald Chassis, i.e Herald, Vitesse, Spitfire, GT6, Bond Equipe, & specials.

I was in that club until a couple of months ago.
Still got to sell the Spitfire.

Best one I had was from a bloke who thought TVRs were made of wood in Malvern!!!

Never did figure it out... perhaps he thought it was a Morgan...

(NB A wooden chassis might actually last longer than a TVR kwik-rot metal one - swap the waxoyl for creosote!)

Talking of keeping your mouth shut - you think you're a Spitfire buff (that's Supermarine Spitfire, not Triumph Spitfire) and you're at an airshow. A WW2 fighter goes overhead - it has elliptical wings. 'What is it?' someone asks. You reply. Then you look again. Oh bugger - P-47 Thunderbolts also have elliptical wings...

Moral - if in doubt, keep schtum!

The Spitfire is THE most beautiful thing that ever flew. End of discussion. :-)

I find that if you're anywhere that a fast piston-engined plane flies over, somebody will call it a Spitfire. I've even seen kids in the village gawping up at the local Police plane (a slow, twin-engined Islander!) and saying "Cor! Looka.... a Spitfire...."
Whatever happened to Airfix kits and Commando books? And the Victor comic, come to that...?

Mosquito ...

I made lots of plastic kits, my son thinks they're toys, ah well he can make some of his own in a few years to replace them!
