Octane said:
"It’s time to get controversial. The Griffith is the greatest car ever built by TVR. It might not be the fastest, nor is it the best to drive, but it did more to put the Blackpool company on the map than anything that preceded it. Heart of the Griffith’s appeal is its beautiful styling, which is gorgeously curvaceous and yet pure in its minimalism – quite simply, it’s the best-looking and most elegantly resolved British post-war sports car of them all."
And if it wasn't raining that would stir me into getting mine out for a spin. Reading that article brings back all the excitement of the Peter Wheeler TVR era; 'So close to greatness it hurts','So fast it creates its own weather' etc. Just look at these figures taken from the Octane article - "Consider these figures for a moment: 0-60mph in 4.0sec; 0-100mph in 9.1sec; 0-150mph in 22.5. In 1996, you needed a McLaren F1 to convincingly beat that. Given that the TVR cost £39,950 and the McLaren £627,000, the Cerbera’s grunt was one hell of an achievement by TVR."

Beautiful looking, stunning interiors, blistering performance, a loyal following - I still can't get my head round how they managed to go bust !

And as said, after 10 years+ you'd best throw the original stuff away if you want to have a driveable car, anyway. smile
Ooops mine's ticking on 15 years, think it's still original shocks smile

I had mine properly set-up on Nitrons and it makes a noticable difference.

I'm used to it smile

I like it just the way it is (I am unsure if it's good or bad, not driven another).

Admittedly mine didn't feel dangerous on 106,000 mile old Bilsteins - just soft, vague and progressively confuddled when upping the speed down country roads to the point where you'd have a mission keeping up with fast traffic. Enter a full geo set up at Intrax with 1K2 Black Titans (not before Henk Thuis had demonstated the trickiness of the back end on the OE stuff on a deserted roundabout, though) and it became a completely different car. Best money you can spend on any TVR (except maybe a Sag)...

It's something I will probably do in the future. I'm preparing to get the chassis done in the future so will probably throw a lot of money at it in one go. I'd be interested to drive some others first though.

I'm getting Nitrons fitted next week. Looking forward to the comparison in ride and handling.

I've read endless posts on all the suspension options, but decided to just go with the Nitrons and be done with it.

Beacause owners of both know that they can't match up to a Tamora.

Is there any difference in the actual set up of the Chim and Griff? Did the Griff have firmer suspension, resulting in its more 'hardcore' status?
Yes and no. The early chims did not have the rear ARB. That is the only difference as far as I know. Every griff/chim chassis post 96 is the same. The shocks which were fitted was just a dependency on what the factory had supplied to it.

The greater majority of the Griffs are 5.0, where the greater majority of the chims are 4.0, so this will contribute to the 'hardcore' claims.

The early Griffs (pre-cats) didn't have ARBs either.

Here here. I think, sadly, the Speed 6 was the beginning of the end, and the Russian killed it off. The AJP8 was TVRs crowning glory; up to 500bhp in 4.7 form, 120kg fully built up, and fits in a 22inch cube. Not many engines can do that!

The griff is just a munter. My money had more taste and refused to leave my wallet until I went to view a chimaera. I don't feel too bad having the proper one cos it was good value compared, even if the grifith is supposedly quicker and has a fat arse.
Edited for accuracy...

A Chimaera owner that thinks the Griffith is 'quicker and better looking' eek Has the world gone mad? Shirley you cannot be serious? Any other Chim owners out there who'd care to come out of the closet?

Maybe it's just a wind up scratchchin

OK so it has ghey overtones but how else could you describe a Chim owner who secretly (or not in Revenants case) desires a Grieff?? As one of the last bastions of total blokeness I find this very disturbing wink
