I have met a lot of these people face to face and can confirm 99% of this banter is just that. Its all tongue in cheek and a bit of fun. Lighten up please. Oh and Some times I cry myself to sleep after reading all the nasty abuse you give me!

Am i wrong in thinking that chimaera owners buy them because they want a chimaera, otherwise they would have bought a griff, they are only a few thousand more and presumably cost the same to run, with very similar performance. So its just a matter of taste which is why we all chose tvrs in the first place. As we spend more time in them than looking at them, isnt the cabin at least as important as the looks? I think the rivalry is fun and adds another dimension to tvr ownership a bit like tottenham vs arsenal,

If it is all just banter, thats fine. I just don't think it is 100%. I'm chilled.

Back on topic. I originally wanted a Griff but bought my Chim 450 because it gave me the most bang for bucks. I soon fell in love with it and havent regretted it.

I wanted a Cerb originally, but the complexity of the engine put me off,
Chim was the next best thing, never wanted a griff tbh

Back on topic, IMHO
The "rivalry" came from the launch of the Chim. The Griff had been around for a few years and had sold quite well, but it was born from the Tuscan Challenge Cars and was actually quite a harsh and focussed car. Some owners complained that they wanted something "softer", better in traffic, easier to handle and more user friendly STILL with the punch and flare of the Griff. PW saw this as a marketing opportunity to have 2 models in the same sector an a useful way of ironing out some of the issues with the Griff. So TVR brought out the Chimeara (means hydrid creature from mythology - or something like that). Adding all the above, there was more bootspace, softer spring/damper settings, raised radiator and the power curves were smoother. It was an evollution of the Griff. Best of Both. Majorly succesfull, the Chim outsold the Griff 4:1. TVRs best to that date. And so now you have the sales pitch.
"Well sir, we have the focussed and edgey Griffith, or you can have the smoother easier Chim, you choose"
Ofcourse now the performance lines are now fudged with customers uprating and tweaking their suspension/engines etc, so its now down to numbers (price and availability) looks and qudos. The rarer Griffith with its hairy chested "car that saved TVR" image and classic looks, or the more user friendly and bang for buck Chim.
There's a choice to be made when you buy now, therefore you yourself will decide one way or another - Chim or Griff - and in that way, there will always be a rivalry as it will put you in one camp.
But it is...and always was...an "either way you bought a TVR so you're ok with us" thing, so banter it remains!

Chim's are ok, but they seem to have problems with the roof mechanism-always seem to be up/closed.

I am on my 4th Chim. Why would I want an inferior version with a tiny boot & difficult roof?

Because if you'd bought one griff it would have been enough?

This chimp and griff banter is great fun ,keep it up!!.Must say though its a bit one sided. The griff guys must be spending more time pruning there chest hair than looking on here.Stunning cars though them griffs, will have to trade in next year.
