I'm 24 and taking delivery of an S3 saturday. My current insurers are having a turkish bath with their quote. Can someone recommend any ins companies?

Whilst the car can qualify as a classic, my mileage seems to be a problem with that - I will be doing about 8 - 9k a year.

Any tips gratefully received.

Get the classic policy and run with the speedo disconnected for 6 months of the year going by the mileages I've seen on some Tivs I'm sure there's a lot of it about
No seriously shnozz I'll see what I can find out, have mine on a classic policy 3K miles pa (5K on a phone call, which I will need at this rate) as second play/toy car.

Try an online quote with Direct Line.
With them I am currently paying £1034 per year as a 24 (now 25) year old on a '96 Griffith parked on a drive overnight!
Some companies wanted over £4k so I thought the deal I got was pretty good!

Shnozz if you post the companies you've already tried then you may get some additional ideas from peeps who are browsing and think "you must have tried x,y & z as everybody does, so I won't bother posting".

Sunninghill Insurance Brokers
£1433, 25yrs, 2 years no claims on Cerbera 4.5
£1083, 26yrs, 3 years no claims

They offer speciaist deals for TVR owners.

BTW general insurance question:

How do I verify four years no claims when coming to a new ins. company??

you need to ask your existing company to send documentation with it on.

I use Ian Fray Insurance in Hinckley, Leics. No number, sorry, but they were cheapest for me.
Make sure the car is garaged (ahem) and you only 'do' 5000 miles a year and that'll help!
A Thatcham Cat 2 alarm will go a long way. In fact some of the companies won't touch you without one.
First TVR I had cost me 250 a year fully comp; that was 6 years ago. Now it costs me 400 for a 1987 390SE, no claims or points.
I used to use T.F.Bell as well; again no number, but shouldn't be too hard to find.

I've heard a couple of people get good deals through Tesco, who are trying hard to get into the market at the moment. Might be worth a call.

I've heard from someone that its cheaper to tax and insure 2 cars (one cheap and slow - normal policy, one Fast - classic policy, low mileage) than it is to have a normal policy on a single fast car. (has to be over 10 years old though, I think)

I’m 24, with a S2 in London but its garaged. I pay £1071 with Peart Associates, cover for track days but not abroad so need to sort something out for Zolder.

That’s with 6 years NCD and 3 bonus points for a SP30.

As a couple of other people have mentioned, Tesco and Elephant are both well worth a go:

Tesco: www.tesco.com/finance/products/motorins/apply.asp

Elephant: www.elephant.co.uk/

Six months ago (when I had great plans, but no cash! ) I was window shopping for quotes, and Tesco came up with £1400 full comp for a Grif 500, no NCB (but no claims, or convictions) parked on the drive. I was 25 at the time of the quote...

Tesco insurance is apparently proviced via Direct Line, as is their credit cards and loans. Direct Line offer discounts if you have other policies, house insurance for instance.
